FAQs

What is the history of the California Special package? The original California Special made its debut in 1968. It was created after California dealers, who were responsible for 20 percent of all Mustang sales at the time, collaborated with Ford on a unique package to commemorate their success. Just over 4,000 of the original California Special Mustangs were built, with a few also sold in Denver under the name “High Country Special”.

What were the defining design features of the original 1968 California Special? The original 1968 coupe featured red and black accents and aero features that would go on to define the trim package for decades.

What Markets will California Special be available? United States, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Andorra, Gibraltar, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania

What Mustang Mach-E colors will the California Special package be available in? Star White Metallic Tri-Coat (pictured), Velocity Blue Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Shadow Black, Race Red, and Glacier Gray Metallic Tri-Coat.

What is Rave Blue? Rave Blue is a new, dynamic color developed for the modern California Special package. With a nod to the California coastline, features a tonal shift from light to dark, reminiscent of ocean water, and can appear as a blue-violet shade under certain lighting conditions.

What specific interior features are part of the California Special package? The interior is a key differentiator for the Mustang Mach-E GT California Special. It features Performance seats upholstered in Navy Pier ActiveX and Miko material with a reflective blue and silver stripe. The center console and steering wheel are also wrapped in the same navy ActiveX, with matching floor mats that echo the seats’ blue and silver stitching details.

How does the community influence these special editions? Ford continues to draw inspiration from the community that made the Mustang a legend. The designers, who are Mustang and Mustang Mach-E owners themselves, regularly attend car shows and meetups to see how owners modify their cars. For example, the Rave Blue wheels on the California Special were inspired by vehicles at The SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

What other changes are there for the MY26 lineup? We will be sharing more about the 2026 Mustang Mach-E lineup later this week.

Whelp there goes our hopes for a NACS refresh I guess?

2027 earliest now, seriously what’s taking these guys so long? HKG had it for what feels like forever now, and they jumped on the bandwagon after everyone else!

Anyway, let’s see what they say about the puny frunk, lack of independent trunk light (GASP!), better charging speeds, and so on. Prolly not much for 2026 if this reveal is any indication.

I like the paint on the daisies. I took the covers off mine, but those look good even with the covers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I paid around $58K for my 2022 Premium in May of that year. Just to put current pricing in perspective.

I like the looks. Nifty accents.

I like the Navy Pier interior accents. Same as in the Bronco and Mavericks Navy Pier interiors. It's a soft blue and would go nicely with my Glacier Gray exterior body color. I would have purchased this instead of my GT if it was available but I would remove the exterior badging and hood decal. This is the first time I've seen the flower wheels come with Pirelli summer performance tires. Previously those tires have only been available on the upgraded GT wheels.

Back in 2021 some dealers were marking up the Mach e by $10K. Also, a few people sold their brand new cars immediately for MSRP, and profited of of the $7500 tax credit. For so many things, the early adopters pay more.

Those wheels are top notch! Especially with white body paint.

Just wait a week after the first deliveries start to occur - Somebody can always be counted to hoon one into your local wrecking yard in their first week of ownership. It'd be less work for you to transplant some salvaged interior bits than redo all of the rest of the work you've done on your car :)

All true. But regardless of the "why", the fact is, the cars are cheaper now. That is my point.

I try to customize my interiors to make them look and feel more upscale, because Ford REFUSES to come out with a Lincoln variant like they currently have on every other Ford SUV.

I've replaced dash, door and steering wheel trim with real forged carbon fiber in satin finish and added a custom steering wheel and center armrest finished in soft leather with Alcantara trim to match the GT seats. Replaced the cheap plastic horn air bag cover with one in leather with the matching silver stitching. I replaced the entire console with one from Ford China that is a more traditional upscale style and mostly covered in vinyl with padded sides and sliding covers for the cup and phone charging areas. Covered the plastic chrome gear shift, volume and headlight dials with 5 Spurs satin black aluminum covers. Have installed tasteful accent and ambient lighting. Added lighting for the rear floor and door storage, glove box, console bin storage and HomeLink visor buttons. Replaced the cheap carpeted floor mats with Lloyds LUX 1/2" thick carpeted mats and sound deadened the entire cabin.

With less plastic trim and reducing the look of multiple different finishes, I'm much happier with it BUT still would like a Lincoln version. 😡
