I typically plan on keeping cars anywhere from 10-15 years.

I wouldn't have bought this car if I didn't think that was possible. I absolutely expect some range degradation in the later years, but not enough that it affected my decision to purchase my Mach E

This article is titled incorrectly. The data they analyzed seems to indicate that the “initial quality” of batteries is improving some, not that batteries are lasting longer. Further, our experience on this forum indicates there is no such thing as 99.9% SoH after three years. Neither does Tesla’s. I just question whether Recurrent knows what the shit they are talking about.

Battery technology has certainly improved over the last 10-15 years an in general newer EV batteries are lasting longer than expected in the real world compared to lab bench tests.

But we are only 3-4 years into Ford’s BEV lineup so it’s hard to predict where battery health will truly be in another 10 years. Not that I’m concerned.

It’s just that the original Nissan Leaf set a bad tone for EV battery longevity and people now expect EV batteries to be useless after 10 years.

It's a very low quality article, but it does have a paragraph saying there are few replacements at all, as well as most replacements are early. The underlying methodology is pretty lame too, cars with old age range issues could be past warantee and suffering in peace.

I have a longstanding skepticism of anything from Recurrent because they primarily source their data from GOMs, which are called GOMs for a reason and are all governed by different software at that. They are drawing two conclusions in this article, one of battery replacement incidence and one of range retention, and both are based on tenuous input data.

I just question whether Recurrent knows what the shit they are talking about.

They know they're talking out of their own ass, so I guess they know what the shit they're talking about.

3-4 years? The Focus Electric was available in 2012

I owned a 2017 Focus Electric whose battery failed at 133,000miles.

I think Ford made the right choice by partnering with external companies for the batteries in the newer BEV models. I too believe the CATL LFP battery in my Mach will last way longer than Ford in-house 1st/2nd gen batteries.

I’m 1 year in with a SoH at 94%. Normal for LFP. It’s supposed to have an initial drop but level off going forward. I’m expecting it to stay in the 90% area for years to come.

Its a joke - he's saying that 3 year old cars have consumed more tires than 1 year old cars, but that doesn't mean there was a breakthrough in tire technology over 2 years.
