The most disingenuous part is blaming it on the loss of the tax credit not the fact that the truck started almost $20k more than the ICE F-150. Don’t announce a $40k version and then never deliver…

It was a 1996 Ford Windstar that made me swear to never buy a Ford again and it was the MME that changed my mind. I’m replacing my FE next year but I’m getting whiplash from all of Ford’s EV u-turns. They have been so EV fickle the last four years that I don’t trust anything they say about EVs (or even EREVs). Ford was proud of how many first time owners came over for the MME but I think I’m done with them for another 20 years.

It was about 20 years for me from 1991 to 2010, but the issue was a dealer.

I got back into Ford with the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

A bit disappointment to me. This will confirm my decision to replace the Mach-E with a Rivian R2 in 2 to 3 years.

I have TWO 2024 Premium AWD Long Range Mach-E's: One Eruption Green, one White
I read that the (still upcoming) RAM EREV will have a lousy 69kWh battery pack, only 145 miles of electric range, and will only get 20MPG when running on generator power. I hope Ford doesn't go with those kind of specs.

I would expect Ford's EREV to have very similar specs. The Ram 1500 REV is a 92 kWh battery, not 69. Probably just under 200 miles of range. Ford might even make the pack smaller than the Ram to cut costs. They will probably use their 3.5L PowerBoost V6 in it.

Best alternative is likely the Ioniq 5 or the EV6. I seriously considered the EV6 before I got the Mach-E. While I'm sure some will consider the R2, I don't think it is really a similar solution to a similar problem. No issue with the R2; I just do not see it as a direct replacement for the Mach-E. R1? is a totally different best.

FWIW, the current Mach-E is not the same as the OG Mach-E. Also, I am hopeful that Ford gets the next gen EV right. Only time will tell. It should be noted that we have multiple different EVs in Europe.
I am curious about what you see in the current Mach-E that is so different from the OG / Original Mach-E, besides LFP battery on base model, the heat pump, and smaller/no-frunk option? Other than those changes isn’t it still the same EV? They are still using Sync4a and haven’t made any other upgrades (ok, incremental powertrain & suspension improvements) outside of the Rally model, right? To me, major upgrades were behind schedule and promised (like NACS) for the next gen Mach-E that sadly we may never see…please let me know what I missed.
Finally, an EREV F-150 may be what we can sell in the current climate that sets up for a BEV F-150 in the future. Again, time will tell, but I think Ford is applying the art of the possible.
Of course, the European EV example is also foreboding. Ford didn’t create a Euro-spec small SUV EV, they bought and reskinned a VW MEB-platform with some minor tweaks + a better software suite = Escape SUV EV . Maybe Ford will just sell rebranded Xiaomi or BYDs in the 2030s when policies reset to support zero emission vehicles in the USA? Ugh.

Ram expects the truck to have an all-electric range of 145 miles (233 km) using its battery which has a 70.8 kWh usable capacity out of its 92 kWh gross capacity. It has a range of 690 miles (1,110 km) when the gasoline engine is used with the 27 U.S. gallons (102 L) fuel tank.[4]

Ok yes 71 not 69.
And check it out: (690-145)/27 =20.185 The gas MPG adds up.

Brian, there no such thing as half pregnant. Ford is either in or out. An EREV is a piece of shit ice, not an EV. It’ll be a larger flop than the lightning. Just you wait.

Think about it: if Ford offered the lightning at ice prices, it’ll sell like hot cakes. The problem is not technology. It’s cost. So ford can’t keep the same battery & add an engine / transmission and sell it at lower prices than lightning. They have to compromise bigly on the battery size.

The range is coming from the gas engine, not the battery. HVB is lipstick on a pig.

Ford can Window dress this however they like but it’s still a horse plop sandwich. Ford can call this an improvement, or anything they like, but that doesn’t make it so. I have bought my last Ford.
This is my first Ford, I look forward to driving it for a few more years in addition to already putting it through 120K miles, but I have the exact same reaction: this will be my last Ford.

new Universal EV Platform (UEV).....released in 2027 with 2026 next month. The PR department at Ford needs to begin a regular release of details of this up coming vehicle. Other companies (Rivian R2 for example) have had the spotlight shined on them for over a year now with retail sales to begin 4 months or so from now.
Ford needs to do a lot of things, a PR push is way to spin this about race is pretty far down the list. One thing you can count on them doing is finding a way to ease out Farley without making it look like he was fired. Rightly or wrongly, the $19 billion plus loss will be blamed on him. That’s not an insignificant loss, even if much if it is write offs. Expect to see a departure so that he can “spend more time with his family” sometime in the coming year.

Currently, Mr. Farley is in second place behind Allan Mulalley as CEO with the highest dollar losses. Mr. Mulalley was CEO during the 2008 financial crisis. Depending upon how Ford accounts for the non operating loss announced today, we could see Mr. Farley shoot well into first place. His tenure is already long for a Ford CEO in the 20th century anyway,
