I’ve been playing with this kit for a few weeks now and thought it would be great to share my thoughts on Facebook and other social media platforms. First off, this kit was created by RichmoLi, and it’s truly the first of its kind for this particular vehicle. I want to give him a huge shoutout for putting in the effort to make this product, even without knowing how popular it would become.
It’s important to note that this isn’t merely adapting a Tesla kit to fit our vehicle. Rather, it involves a comprehensive re-engineering process to guarantee seamless integration with the Ford ecosystem. This task is unique, as there is no precedent to replicate for the MME.
Compatibility:
The kit works with the Ford ecosystem and here are examples;
First in this video, you’ll see it working with the key fob assuming you have the Ford lightning key fob:
Second, you’ll see that it works with the main screen:
Here’s a video of it working for PAAK:
And lastly, here’s a video of it working with the keypad code using the 7/8 selections:
Installation:
Having installed a number of items in the MME, including ambient light kit, borla exhaust, the roof electric tint, the one of one electric spoiler, and of course, the front little pony…. I would rank this install on the easier side.
Not impossible to do it alone, but certainly easier if you had a helper. The kit consist of two replacement struts that can be easily removed:
Separately, there are two replacement brackets that the new struts will latch onto. These brackets are relocated attachment points that are next to the OEM slots.
Once that’s complete, you proceed to replacing the spring on the latch as well as installing a secondary latch; the silver latch is from the kit while the black latch is OEM:
Next, you go ahead and replace the upper latch:
Once done, you then remove and replace the bumper springs:
For the next step, you just plug and play the connectors and hook it up to power and ground:
The cables are all connected to a master harness that connects to the module.
The last thing is expanding the opening where the strut is by cutting the plastics slightly to reduce frictions since the new struts are slightly larger:
For anyone curious here’s the entire write up with videos embedded via YouTube:
Final Review:
I think this product is very well created and produced. The functionality is top notch considering how it’s integrated with pretty much all of the Ford ecosystem and native controls. Since having this, I have increased my use of the front at minimum 50% of the time. Previously, it just wasn’t as convenient. Considering the installation really took no more than two hours. I would certainly rate this as something a DIYer can easily perform. Do you really need this kit? Well, do you really need that extra slice of cake, it’s OK to indulge a little.
My post is not intended to debate whether or not this mod is necessary. I understand that some people and rightfully so may not find this mod valuable or dispute of the costs is excessive. Instead, my post is to provide insight on functionality and some perspective on install installation if you decide to pursue this kit.
Appreciate all the positivity and continued support. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll try to answer them in this post.
