I think we need more data before making conclusions. Keep an eye on this thread for future experiences.
OK. I wouldnā€™t order the LPT until I tested my current transponder anyway. I havenā€™t looked in manual about this potential problem do you know if itā€™s mentioned?

Yeah, Oklahoma's solution is a license plate frame that goes on the front of your car. But In Oklahoma we don't have front plates. I don't think they work on the back of the car. I'll have to order a new sticker and try it on the black dotted part of the windshield.

I have read the manual cover to cover and I do not believe this is mentioned at all.

Reading all of this makes me very glad I live in a state where there are no such thing as tolls.
Until you travel to one of those states that do . . .. In state, we primarily use it to travel to Cedar Point. But it has come in very handy in WV and in PA on those turnpikes. Great to not have to stop and fish out cash for tolls.

Even if I travel to a state with tolls, I wonā€™t have an EZ-Pass. There must be a different system for visitors.

or plate-based billing, like they do in some places now (eg entering the PA Turnpike from the west).

Thatā€˜s what Iā€™ve always done. If thatā€™s still an option, I guess thatā€™s what Iā€™ll continue to do. Not a big deal when it only happens on one trip every couple of years.

Well this is unfortunate. . . we have to find a solution then, at least for the white EZ Pass brick.

(on a side note, this forum is starting to sound like the problematic tesla Forum. I sure was hoping to avoid that.)

If they can just bill the license plate owner, why are they fussing with all this transponder nonsense?
the "transponder nonsense" is a lot less expensive and a lot more direct. The license plate thing requires looking up the plate, sending a paper bill, waiting for the payment back... much more of a pain in the ass for both sides.

from the tolling authority's viewpoint, they generally do a deposit-based system, so they always get the money quickly, and they can make short-term interest on the deposits.

Totally

Disjointed systems. Different states settled on different approaches. Would be nice to have one consistent system. And no need for the transponders.

Until recently, the NY EZ Pass system gave a green light if tag recognized or a yellow with "call EZ Pass" message as you went through the booth (20mph for unattended lanes, 5mph for attended booths). No match of plate to transpaonder AFAIK. I would have told you PA had the same light system based on my limited experience there, guess I was wrong.
Anyway, now all booths (at least on the NYS Thruway system) are being removed and all tolling is by plate or by EZPass, both at highway speeds. Not sure about NYC area bridges.
PA has no lights. They want you to go through at speed. They have cameras and will try to match the plate and invoice you that way if they donā€™t get a hit on your transponder. Itā€™s on you to monitor your account.

Somehow they should link a plate to an account like the transponder.
