I think I saw a thread on this, but didn't recall seeing a resolution. My washer fluid light is on and stays on despite filling the resevoir with fluid. I was reading that the sensor can sometimes go bad, but this looks like something only the dealer can fix (you have to access it from underneath). Anyone have an experience with this?

A few months ago mine started acting up as well, except I have the opposite issue. It thinks its always full even when it’s empty. Haven’t looked into it much but I believe the sensor/reservoir is just inside the driver side wheel well. Should be fixable yourself, just very annoying.

For reference, I’ve got a 2021 GT.

Do you use the green rain-x brand washer fluid?
I think I used it maybe once or twice before. Don’t pay too much attention to what brand of fluid I put in there. Harsh Canadian winters usually call for running -40C rated fluid for most of the year, so whatever is cheapest is what I put in. For the summer I usually switch it out for some other fluid that specializes in removing bugs, but again don’t pay too much attention to the brand.

I recommend avoiding the bug washer fluid because it forms a sticky film at the surface that coats the inside of your washer reservoir and the fluid sensor, causing it to stick and malfunction.

These brand new bottles had a manufacture date code that was less than six weeks ago. Look how much sticky stuff has formed, that will be what happens to your reservoir. All the bottles on the shelf were like that.

I ask because that particular one is known to cause sensor issues in jeeps. It’s possible it could affect other vehicles too.

My low washer fluid light came on and stayed on a few months ago. Ford dealer wanted £180 to fix it. I refused the very expensive offer, and a week later the light went off and stays off (unless the reservoir is low on fluid). Hope yours returns to normal eventually 🤞
