The automaker should definitely work on that, but at the same time, this fast pace is also what pushes innovation and results in Tesla achieving industry-leading specs with its EVs, especially when it comes to efficiency and range.
This is the only part I have a problem with regarding that article. Fast pace innovation and quality assembly are not mutually exclusive. Other than that, I think it was a fair, well written opinion piece.

i have no problems with darren palmer. it's good ford has someone that's a little bit brash and willing to really push ford into the EV world with solid products like the mach-e. if that means showing a little bit of attitude towards a competitor in an interview, fine. it sounds like they've given him his own 'edison team' and he's proud of the team and the mach-e. i'm excited to be drive the product soon.

many of the early reviews, albeit of pre-production units, seem to show initial build quality being better than tesla. he knows that's a reason a lot of us are choosing the mach-e over a tesla, he's just calling it out.

Those of us that owned 2012 Focuses with the 5-times-recalled "you're just driving it wrong" shuddering and clattering dual clutch automatic transmission remember when Ford definitely didn't fall on the "generally speaking" side of that, but agreed, they usually fix things.

It's just particularly touchy to see that kind of attitude when for some of us, we remember that attitude being used to justify Ford *not* fixing our cars.
The good old Getrag DPS6 "Deep 6". That one prolly hit Ford and Getrag in the pocketbook pretty hard, especially Gretag.

Some of those Getrag trannies had terrible driveability, and believe it or not, some had really good driveability. Getrag could never come up with the perfect clutch plate material. Either too soft, with super smooth shifts and a lowish lifespan, or too hard, with fantastic lifespan and legendarily bad shifts, but never both. You can guess which way the formulation ultimately leaned. It was kind of damn if you do, damn if you don't.

I guess right choice would have been to keep the current automatic transmission, wait for the Ford 6F, and pay the fuel economy fines. Hindsight is always 20-20. Sometimes the transmission roof blows off after a carwash, lol, and you wish you had chosen differently.

An example of just how bad Tesla quality is comes from the TFL review comparing the MME with the MY. As they open the hatch on the MY there is a clicking sound, which turns out to be the misfit hatch scraping against the body. And this is a vehicle TFL has had for several months and which Tesla has had opportunities to fix. Oh wait, maybe they shouldn't have talked about that because it's so negative.

Agreed that it's better to have others make the case for you, which in this case isn't going to be hard to do. That's why I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it. Or he could just have talked about how Ford has spent the time and effort making sure the build quality was better "than any other competitor in the class". No different than what he said but maybe the Tesla fanboys would hear it differently.

Some folks here:
Brash Elon = Visionary!
Brash Palmer = (pearl clutching) I declare - how dare he!

Were I Palmer in that position , I would not have said this so publicly, and Ford needs to really deliver on the quality to back up the talk. Most have no issue with bold talk when the performance meets/exceeds the claims. Although there have been some clues, it's going to take some time with production MMEs on the road to find out how the quality compares...everything is speculation based on limited data till then.

I have lots of waaaay more substantial things to think about than Palmer's Tesla cracks.

It's like the old Mac vs PC ads. I was always wanting Microsoft to respond to some of that BS but they never did.

“The doors fit properly, the plastics and other materials color-match, the bumpers don’t fall off, the roof doesn’t come off when you wash it, the door handles don’t get stuck in cold weather,” he said, assumably referring to Tesla’s well–documented quality issues of years past. In two instances, owners of Model Y vehicles said their cars roofs’ blew clear off the cars.
Good thing he didn't say "the windshield doesn't come off" then

Nearly 100,000 trucks recalled for front windshields that are "inadequately bonded to the vehicle body structure" looking forward to seeing the cocky Ford swagger here.

What was that about glass houses and throwing rocks...?

I just wish they'd show some humility.

The great thing is this is only from wrecks at certain high speeds. Guess what ford is fixing it. Right away. Not still sending bad and missed-up cars down the line and well we can fix them later or how about, well it is only supposed to last 5 years lol.

Maybe you don't understand the points being made but if you like to keep tagging me then I'm more than happy to keep holding your hand to correct you. I even have a trophy like you got in school for just participating. Here you go ........................................ ? ??
