Ordered. That is how it got christened here. Washing bugs out on the road. My thigh popped it out and then I move forward. It is so small I think I am the only one that would every see it. Happened once it will again.

So just to clarify, the $20 is for the actual part, not the print file?
Yes. This is a high quality physIcal part in flexible TPU made via SLS process and vapor polished. This is for people who just want to click a link and have it delivered. The STL file is still a free download for anyone else, for personal / non-commercial use (and assumes the downloader knows what they are doing).

thanks for seeing this through. I admit it's not a thing I was super worried about until I saw talk on here about it and now I'm a bit paranoid about it, so it was an easy decision to order it and not have to worry about it.

Thanks. Drill a hole and pull it out with a piece of hooked coat hanger ;). It is so small that only I know it is there. I will spend on possibly preventing a larger one and forget the tiny one exists. I actually like that it was such a small christenings. Hope the preventer works for when it happens again.
Drilling a hole would be cheaper, had not thought of that :)

You could also disassemble the front panel and push outwards in the area :)

You are right, now you can spot your MME from others (the market is flooded with them) ;)

Sure. To be clear, this is not a fool-proof thing. It only helps a little.
I couldn't make the actual wedge part as thick as I wanted and still be able to get it installed. There is a little detent it has to get past. I have an idea for how I might be able to achieve it by making a notch, but then it is also a trade-off in that if it holds the charge-port door closed too far, you may have trouble inserting the charge cable. :-/

oh, don't worry, I know how to handle a cable. (*)

(*) that's not a euphemism - I literally mean I know how to handle an electrical charger cable (**)

(**) never mind I'll just stop digging

No backpedaling now. I have forked out mass quantities of cash for this. I want warranties. ;)

If it helps it will be a bonus. Happens quick.

If there is enough interest I can look into that enhancement that I have been thinking about.

This version only holds the door back 10-15º. If I could get it to 20º it would be more effective, but I am worried that any more than that and it will make it too hard to plug the charge cable in / out. :-/

The main problem is that even with this wedge the rest of the charge-port door components have a lot of flex in them, so the wedge just means the door has to be pushed harder before contacting the body. Even if I could get a wedge in there that blocked it by 25º (and if that wasn't really an issue for inserting the charge cable), there's the possibility that enough pressure on the door would simply break the arm or more likely rip the door off the arm (I can't tell, but it may simply be glued on). :-/

Understand if you forced hard enough you could snap the door right off. With me it was opened with my leg unnoticed and then I moved forward but stopped short . ?

I will take the upgraded model or whatever you think is best. Please test a prototype prior to sending ;) . Your initiative is appreciated.

The problem is, that the car's door and components are cheaply built and fragile. Wasn't well thought out for the long term use.

Though it may not work for major bending, I’ve gotten into the habit- ever since reading about possible dents- of putting a piece of felt or a microfiber cloth between the car and chart port door. I prefer the felt and keep it with my charger so I can grab it at the same time. It’s gotten to be habit that only takes seconds, and I think I will continue to do this even with using one of these stoppers. Hopefully it will never be an issue, but you never know.

I shipped out the updated revision today to everyone who got one from me. This version includes the tweaks I made so that the thin walls worked better with my 0.8mm nozzle. Should fit much smoother now and not cause any binding on the door.

Nice job! The new one greatly reduces the chance of damage and doesn’t impede closing the cover. It does stop the door from popping all the way open initially but is easy to open all the way by hand.

The door stops at

The door then opens fine and does a nice job of resisting against over-extension and impact with the body.
