Day 43: The battery pack finally got into the dealership! Mechanic is working to install it still, but at least it seems close.

Since I had the time, tried asking Ford Support and the dealer about getting a complimentary second key fob since the car is already in the shop, and thought I read somewhere on here that new MMEs were coming with a second job included. Neither was familiar with any complimentary second key fobs. Darn ?

@Jako607 - Thanks for the good vibes, and interesting experience of your own over there! Sounds like tweeting at Jim definitely didn't hurt! Out of curiosity, how long back did you experience your issues?

@VJ2021 - sorry to hear about your issues, and my MME got a similar build date in December. Hopefully they'll diagnose something different for yours, or at least repair it sooner than mine ? Definitely let us know how your journey goes and if it is a battery issue, vote on the poll in https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mme-high-voltage-battery-issues.7602/

First time was back in April, most recent time was 2 weeks ago, which was when I had the back and forth with Farley. Just got the car back last Wednesday.

I hope its something else too ... but so far things are looking same. The dealership tried what they could do yesterday but no luck, they have asked Ford engineer come and take a look, so waiting on that. Unfortunately no loaner so far, they are saying they have them all out right now and there is a waitlist need to push them.. its frustrating to have to go fight for something they should provide.

Holy Moly! I jumped on here because this just happened to me today and I am NOT thrilled about waiting 43 days to get my car back.

Oddly, I received an email from AutoNation Ford that it was time to have a routine maintenance check on my MME last week. Ever since then a "full charge" was half the miles it had been previously. It took them an hour to rotate the tires. When I walked over to check on the car I think I saw yours, Dave, sitting up high! I asked as many questions as I could, but you know that don't know much about these yet.

I stalled out only 3 miles from the dealership. Sounds like they need to have extra batteries on hand because I will be the fourth MME to have this same issue just in Frisco.

Day 49: still don't have any update on how the repair is going, but I am out on vacation so figure they're just trying not to bother me hopefully. Last I heard, the mechanic was working on it, and I did get a flurry of FordPass power train and battery error notifications on Wednesday, but see that they charged my MME up to 100% on Friday without any errors so that sounds encouraging.

Oh no Melanie! Nice to see another North Dallaser on the forum, but ugh ... hate to see yet another one facing the same issue. ? Hopefully if this is that common of an issue, we'll see their turnaround times getting faster as they get down to the root cause and hopefully get more dollies and batteries.

Don't forgot to vote on the poll at
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mme-high-voltage-battery-issues.7602/ so we can track how many folks on this forum are having similar issues. It's not all that scientific, but at least it'll get a rough idea of how common this actually may be.

Update from Houston, I was called this morning and told that a battery came into the dealership with my name on it. The advisor even stated she wasn't notifies that it would be coming. They said I would hopefully be getting my car back tomorrow or Wednesday. So a little less than 30 days!

Lucky Day 50! Got a call from AutoNation Ford Frisco stating that my car is ready for pickup ? Out of town so won't be able to get it until Wednesday or Thursday, but looking forward to some joy / test drives this weekend.
?

@snikt if this doesn't resolve the issue then I'll definitely lemon law it, but hoping that we should be in the clear from now on (hopefully). Technically the wait was more around part unavailability (i.e. battery pack) from Ford and limited resources at the dealership (i.e. dolly for the battery), rather than bringing it in multiple times due to issues. I still liked the car for the 4 months that I had it before the battery pack issue.

The End (hopefully): Got back into town today and rushed over to AutoNation to pick up KITT and get him home. Everything appears to be working now!! Looks like they swapped out 2 battery modules based on the invoice notes below.

There were some minor scratches on my MME that I happened to catch before leaving, and they were able to buff those out quickly and offered to detail it whenever I want to bring it back. Service was great at AutoNation despite the repair duration.

Hopefully this is just a one off situation, and that these battery issues will be resolved faster for others in the future. Best of luck to any one else going through this!

Now back to lurking in the forum shadows for me ?

Glad to see they noted they balanced the packs they replaced. That was an issue that popped up for someone else that had a similar repair. Hopefully this issue is behind you!

edit: Sounds like they had another issue after battery balancing that required "expert charge" on those modules. What's that?

I was assuming that meant they had to charge up those modules manually, but not sure.

Thanks for the excellent updates. It removes a lot of potential anguish when you know what to expect. My Seattle FE goes in the shop in 10 days for its HVB alerts.

Good, glad it's finally fixed!

P0B24 - Hybrid/EV Battery "A" Voltage Unstable: Sets if one module cell voltage deviates from the average module cell voltage for 15 seconds.

Module was CRACKED? Interesting, I bet the bad cell swelled up.

They didn't balance the modules well enough the first time, so they had to take them out and do it again a second time. When new modules are introduced, they have to be adjusted to exact same voltage as the other pack modules or the error code will set again. The problem is they drift some after charging, so if they weren't on the balancer long enough or enough time elapsed between the balancer and getting the pack in the car they must have drifted too far.

In theory, this repair should be able to be done in 1 day after the replacement modules are on-site, hopefully this will become speedier with time as the dealers get more practice.
