I picked up a GT PE at MSRP with no extra dealer BS in the middle of nowhere northeast Connecticut on Friday. Took me about 30 hours to get home including one stop to sleep for about 6-7 hours. Here is my experience and economy info.
GTPE.jpg

The PE seats are super comfortable to road trip in. The butt cushion feels the same as the other trims, but the back is more aggressive. If you are extremely wide it may be an issue but for normal to large people (I'm 6'2", 220lbs) they're good and comfortable.

Here are my list of stops, all 8 were EA stations. I drove between 75-78mph the whole way except when there was traffic. Mi/kWh were what the trip computer told me. Not calculated.
Eastford CT - Start at 98% SoC
Ennis CT - No charge, stop to visit a friend
Newburgh NY - EA did not bill me or my FordPass bundle. Estimated charge was 37kWh, but I didn't write it down or the economy.
Bloomsburg PA - 52kWh 2.7mi/kWh
DuBois PA - 54kWh 2.4mi/kWh
Girard (Youngstown) Ohio - 45kWh 2.4 mi/kWh
Day 2 I had issues with all 4 charging stops.
Mansfield Ohio - 37kWh 2.5mi/kWh
Huber Heights Ohio - 35kWh 2.5 mi/kWh - this charger limited to 34kW max it took forever. I tried all 6 there and called EA. I was not the only one with issues.
Indianapolis, IN - 28 kWh 2.4mi/kWh - IN had the interstate closed for construction on a Friday afternoon so this was a horrible section.
Effinham, IL - 52kWh 2.5 mi/kWh
Home ~18% SoC

I was really happy with the economy. For how fast I was going it did great.

This message is for EA. FIX YOUR CHARGERS!!!!! Day 1, all 4 stops I had 0 issues. It was wonderful. Day 2 I had tons of problems. All chargers day 2 were 2018 build signet units.
Mansfield - Charger stuck on "unplug". Max charging speed is 70kW after a brief stint above 100kW. Lady in E-Tron was only getting 41kW!
Huber Heights - 34kW max no matter what charger was used. Called EA and talked to someone in an ID4. The ID4 told me they have always been like this (they bought the car a month ago). Looking in plugshare logs this is a known issue at this site and EA has not fixed it.
Indianapolis - First charger was limited to 34kW. I called EA and asked them to reset the other 350kW charger because it was also stuck on 'pleas unplug'. They did and that charger did a proper 130kW and slowly tapered down to 80kW.
Effingham - Continually went to 70kW. One time I heard what sounded like a giant contactor closing and it immediately went down to 70kW. Replugging fixed the issue briefly. I do not believe this is the car as day 1 there were none of these issues and it charged as expected.

Bluecruise works pretty well. It is simply lane centering that allows you to remove your hands on the easy parts. Video I took here:

This car rides better than my FE does. I'm not sure why it does but it feels less bouncy and honestly more forgiving. The tires were at 42PSI too so a little overinflated.

This car is fast. It is pretty incredible how quick it was. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it it great. It has a hard button to turn traction control off and you can even turn ESC off if you hold it for 10 seconds. It also has the "Unbridled extended" track mode which limits power and ESC/TC for track use.

My brand new car now has 1200 miles on it but it's home and I'm really happy with it. The newer software updates make everything feel better, it feels a lot more finished than my FE does even today with the older software. I programmed a second key to this car and am going to do software updates on it shortly after making this video. There are updates available for the RFA, PCM, SOBDM and B/C.

Final note. Tesla still wins for road tripping. Hands down. The charging network is so broken for EA and Ford's charge curves just aren't acceptable for reasonable road tripping. The charge curves are supposed to be addressed some - I've heard rumors, but EA needs to figure their network out.

Edit: Adding some info. I checked for updates and this already had updates for the SOBDM (AC Charger), SOBDM B (front motor), SOBDM C (rear motor), PCM, and RFA. I ran all updates. No noticeable changes.
GTupdate.jpg

Also a quick 0-60 video. It's hard to launch because with the electronic brake pedal it likes to move forwards before the brakes grab harder. You kind of have to 'bump it in' like a true drag car.

Great review. Looking forward to the update in my car. I like the new power feature you mentioned, in the lower corner of the front display.

BC looks pretty good in my opinion. I'd rather have it on the conservative side that just full on let you screw yourself :D

I've been lucky with the EA network, a few issues but nothing major. My wife had issues with an EA station in Charlotte NC where almost every machine had an issue. She called EA and they said thanks for the call and that work orders were already in place for that location. She was able to get charged after about 6 attempts

Thanks for the blue cruise video, while not perfect it seems like a no brainer for me, I've got 11,000 miles on my car already, and look forward to taking my hands off the wheel

Ah, that’s the “magic of magneride.”

I’m assuming you were in whisper mode on the highway?

I believe it was a Sams Club, let me find it.............. nope, it's a Walmart. 7735 N. Tryon St Charlotte, NC

She's visiting her sister and has used it twice. Has 10/12 stations so hopefully you'll find one that works

Great post, thank you for the information! Do you have any experience comparing the mi/kwh in this car or your FE when in the different driving modes, whisper, engaged or unbridled?

Going to try to reply to everyone's questions in one post here.

Congrats on your GTPE. Love it. Thanks for the post. I have not tried any public charging yet since I just got mine yesterday. I live in Indiana and we are a bit of a charging desert. Planning a trip to Dayton on Oct 2. That will be my first test.
Be cautious. I had issues with the EA charger in Indianapolis, and then all 3 chargers in Ohio...

I’ll be looking for you while driving my red premium I picked up 2 weeks ago..I live in the Oakville area
Cool! I live in Fenton right by George Winter Park.
What else about software makes it feel better? Any specifics? Curious if any of these software updates are coming to the normal cars
You know, part of it may be because it does seem to ride and drive better than my FE. My FE has a steering clunking the dealer needs to look at and the brake pedal feels better on the GT (not as jerky). It also may be part placebo because it is a new, different car and I like the way the seats feel too.

Specifically to the software, the radio does boot a little bit faster and they've fixed a lot of the bugs. It also just has some new features or they changed the way the nav works for the better in my opinion. The instrument cluster with the new power meter is nice as it also shows a power limit (low SoC, hot battery, cold battery, etc). Maybe a few other things too.

Awesome review! I'm thinking about finding one out of state too! My order still doesn't have a build date! What's the best way to find them? Ford site? Cars.com?
Honestly I got super lucky. I had told a few friends "Find me a GT PE with no markup and I'll buy it". My friend was scrolling through facebook one morning and saw a pic of one a local to him dealer posted. I called them and couldn't' believe it when it was for sale and for sale without markup. One of the employees had ordered it and decided to go a different route. Ford.com is a terrible way to find them, they're already sold most of the time. I honestly don't know the best way right now. It is so tough with how fast cars sell.

Ah, that’s the “magic of magneride.”

I’m assuming you were in whisper mode on the highway?
I use whisper mode 98% of the time. I never use engage and go to unbridled when I want to do a little bit of 'more fun' driving. You still get full acceleration in whisper so I only change to unbridled if I want the suspension to stiffen up for some fun roads, etc. Or maybe I just want the fake engine noise for a little bit.

Great post, thank you for the information! Do you have any experience comparing the mi/kwh in this car or your FE when in the different driving modes, whisper, engaged or unbridled?
I do not and I stay in whisper mode almost all of the time. To be honest I don't think it would make any difference if your driving style is exactly the same. I have noticed that if I can keep my foot out of it (really hard to do) it does as good as the FE when I don't put my foot into it...(also really hard to do).

"Specifically to the software, the radio does boot a little bit faster and they've fixed a lot of the bugs. It also just has some new features or they changed the way the nav works for the better in my opinion. The instrument cluster with the new power meter is nice as it also shows a power limit (low SoC, hot battery, cold battery, etc). Maybe a few other things too."

Dude what?! That is fricking huge. Can you give us a picture of the power meter and power limit? Basically instrument cluster stuff? I've been eying getting another car and this is a huge reason why

Also I'd like to know the nav differences!

4min 40 seconds in my blue cruise video I show it.

The major difference with nav is the menu when you hit search is a popup on the left side. It really isn't major differences just small tweaks to make it more intuitive.
