3.5 over 6000 miles, AWD ER.

Noticed in the last few weeks it's slipping towards 3.3 with the temperature drop. Expecting 2.8 in the depths of a Cumbrian winter!

Hi everyone, I am planning a trip up to Scotland in the second week of November which will be first decent length trip in my Mach-E (SR RWD). I am not concerned about charging on the way / down as there are plenty of decent chargers on the M6 now, my concern is when I am staying at the hotel, it has no facilities but there is a car park behind with a 50kw DC charger operated by Chargeplace Scotland. I have read reports on the Mach E UK Facebook page that some Mach-E owners are having problems with using the Chargeplace Scotland DC chargers. People are reporting that they couldn't get their vehicle to communicate with the DC charger, but if they used the AC charger it was fine but of course no where near as fast to charge.
Has anyone one here had any bad experiences with them?

Hi

Iā€™ve been using the ChargePlace Scotland chargers since I got my car at the end
of June and theyā€™ve been fine for me so far. Fingers crossed!
As you say, Iā€™ve saw a couple of people posting some issues. Some seemed to be eVolt chargers and I havenā€™t used any of those ones.
One of the suggestions for the cause of the problems was communication between the charger and carā€¦the solution was to hold the charger in at a certain angle when first plugged in.

Thereā€™s a Facebook group called Scottish Ev Drivers club which has always been very helpful if you wanted to join for some help/knowledge.

I took my car in to the ford dealership due to no heat.
they rang and said that they found the e heat button and switched it on, and now itā€™s all ok.

i thought the e heat button was just a boost to start and then once you were going it didnā€™t need to be switched on. but apparently it does.

is this right?

Who knows...

Wouldn't it be best just to have a heatpump like a certain other make who we won't mention and be done with it?

The battery gives off heat this Is used warm the cabin but I donā€™t think itā€™s not like an ice in terms of heat output. The outside has to be warm for the battery to get hot. However we want the warm air when itā€™s cold. So in short I believe that it does give out a bit of heat but not much for long. That is the issue with the heating without eHeat.
Maybe Iā€™m wrong.

I'm sure we'll all find out when the frosty icy weather starts. ā˜ƒI suppose we've been lucky to receive deliveries in the summer/early autumn.

Tesla Model Y is available to buy in the UK today. It's not cheap starting at Ā£54990 for the long-range. That is about Ā£10k above my MME. WLPT range of 315 and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. In reality as much as I wanted a Model Y I couldn't afford one through work anyway. The MME is great value IMHO in comparison.

I think my MME is far better looking anyway. Tesla wasn't even on my radar when I was looking for an EV.

Agreed. There isn't a Tesla in the range (excluding the Roadster!) that can hold a candle to the MME on aesthetics. I've got nothing against Tesla's and think they're excellent cars but the looks are not anything to write home about.

Yes, they are correct.

Best way to look at this:

1. Unlike ICE cars, in an EV, there is nothing generating such large amounts of heat like an engine can;

2. Battery will give off a little bit of heat when itā€™s charged for a while. This will ā€˜take the chill offā€™ but not ā€˜heatā€™ the car;

3. E Heat is like a fan heater that replaces the traditional heating system on an ICE car;

4. It does drain the battery but if you donā€™t set the temp too high and keep it on Auto so it switches off when it gets to temperature, it shouldnā€™t be too bad;

5. Always best to precondition the cabin before you set off if you can.

Hope this helps.

While weā€™re chewing over miles/kWh numbers, I got home from the supermarket and noticed thisā€¦. (ignore the shocking taste in music - I was having a retro day) ?

I wish I could average that all the time! Iā€™d be getting nearly 500 miles a charge

I had similar yesterday ... Also a retro bangers day.

Does auto 1, 2 or 3 make difference to power drawn? Other than the fan speed (which must be a small difference).

I was part of this conversation a few weeks ago, tanks again Mercury8 for the tips. Haven't been back to Scotland recently to test but what has happened is that I've finally got a ChargePlace Scotland charging card. So between Mercury8's tips and the chargecard I hopeful of successful charging on my next visit. At the moment not sure when that will be, but will report back to the forum on any progress. If your not heading till November, maybe also worth trying to get a chargecard...might help?
