I ordered a GT Performance. My wife ordered a Tesla Y Long Range. I want to share a garage charger between the two cars. Our first electric car(s). Need advice on how we do that from a single outlet. Want fast charging not 110. Thanks for the help. David

Need 240 volt with highest amp you can get so you can charge as fast as you can. If you charge fast, you'll each need to use it for less time.
Recommend ChargePoint level 2 charger and have it hard wired.

EnelX JuiceBox makes WiFi chargers that can share the same circuit. You'd get one per car and plug them both in. If only one car is charging, it gets to use the full available amperage. If both cars are charging it gives each car half the amperage ... but switches to full as soon as one of the cars finishes.

Clipper Creek also has a system. I think they call there's the "Share2 Duo" (and I think it comes with both chargers).

These systems mean you don't have to run a new circuit or upgrade your service.

What does sharing mean? Charge one car, unplug, charge 2 cars?

Or, charge two cars at the same time?

The first option is easy, provided that where your charge is located can reach both cars. We got aJuiceBox 48, which is as fast a charger as you can install in a home. Put it in the middle of the middle bay of our 3 car garage, and it can reach all 3 bays with its 25 foot cord. FYI, it gets hard wired, not plugged in.

The second option is to install two JuiceBox 48s on the same line. The chargers communicate and will split the charge between the vehicles, or let you charge one at a higher rate than the other. I believe if one finishes charging, it will then kick up the speed on the remaining vehicle.

Grizzl-e makes a duo charger that has 2x 24' cables. It will automatically divide the power from a single circuit depending on whether you have 1 or 2 cars plugged in.

Cheaper and less error prone than buying two separate units and "pairing" them to communicate with each other.

I just received mine and will be ceiling mounting it to a 14-50 outlet I had put up there. This seems preferable to having move cords around on the ground. I got the ceiling idea from an earlier thread on this forum.

Might be the solution and worth a watch.

Glad I clicked into this. Wife and I have been sharing a charger at home though I mostly just plug in at work and call it good. But this morning I remote started the car so it was nice and toasty when I got in. The car running the heater, heated seats, and steering wheel before I got in meant my efficiency for my drive to work was… poor.
I think I want a second charger for those winter nights when I’m home but the wife needs to be plugged in. We have a Grizzl-E but I didn’t know they made dual units.
Now I get to decide between buying a dual unit or a second single unit and running another 50 amp circuit.

Seems like a second 50 amp makes sense if your panel can power it. But if you have charging at work maybe not….just split it. That was a lot of help. Lol

Potentially elegant solution though the NeoCharge website is frustrating--it doesn't seem to let you explore their products unless you give your email address and cell phone number (to get a $75 coupon). But let's say you want to start out installing something like this but hardwired. So instead of installing a single NEMA 14-50 plug and then pugging in a smart splitter like this, is there a two-plug outlet that can be hardwired and that has the circuitry to split or share the loads? I would think something like that exists.

I want one hard wired circuit that allows me to switch between a factory Tesla and Mach GTP car with a app. Fast charging.

Clearly a hardwired dual charger would obviously work (like the ClipperCreek one he shows in the video)--would have to figure out if the cost of that equaled two separate chargers plus the type of hardware I am asking about (a smart hardwired 2-plug outlet--essentially a hardwired NeoCharge).

Doesn’t exist yet.

All the current options have been stated:
  • Two separate chargers each with their own circuit
  • A dual plug charger from Grizzl-E or Clipper Creek
  • That Neo box thing shared above, which looks very sketchy to me.
