Well that is why I said usability. The linked reference is actually different from the one I had read earlier, but basically said the same thing.

It's certainly far more fuel efficient when "idling", which probably counts for more than "environmental control clarity" and steering wheel adjustments.
Not necessarily true. If the cockpit is not adjustable enough then that can run a high risk of having equipment failure when officers are trying to get in or out of the car quickly. Have to think of all the crap they have to carry on them. If they don't have the clearance it could be pretty uncomfortable for the officers.

You also have to keep in mind it was running against much larger cars, that if I'm not mistaken, were designed for police use. The MME Ford has testing is the same thing any of us could buy from what I've read. They could very easily make a cruiser variant and address the majority of their concerns.

The electronic accessory draw shouldn't be enough to matter much. I can't imagine it being more than 1 kW (consider a typical laptop is 65 W charger), so 8 hr day is 8 kWh from a 71? kWh battery.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I liked the turning off idle runtime. I have read the few articles out there on EV Police vehicles. I’m a 30 year veteran and trying to go into this with an open mind. I have been in almost all the major police vehicles. Currently assigned a Durango. I have concerns going in with current version of the MME working as a daily use patrol division vehicle.

Unfortunately when I demoed the MME last year I did not get the chance to do it with my gear on. So that has been a concern in the back of my mind. Those of you that sit in an office know your chair is very important. So I will keep you informed on that as well.

I don’t know what all features my model will be coming with. I have not physically seen it since we took possession of it the first week of November. It went straight to the shop to get outfitted.

Note that the purpose built Ford Police units (Interceptor, F150 Responder, etc.) have modifications to meet police needs such as recontoured seats with cutouts to allow items on a utility belt such as weapons to fit and not impact the officers comfort. On the Interceptor the rear door hinges are different to allow a greater door swing making entry of a perp easier (try crawling in while cuffed!). Additional door check straps to prevent hinge damage when the door is flung open and many more including heavy duty frame cradles, cooling and much more. I am familiar with these as I handled police sales for Ford dealers.

Mike, 1st off; thank you for your service. That is currently under appreciated profession.

The car can be configured to automatically push the seat back when you open the door. So getting out with your gear on will not be an issue (unless it's in an emergency type setting).

I think you will find the EV experience addicting and when you go back to your regular ICE auto and that instant torque is not there and you actually have to use the break pedal well.......let's just say I bet your next personal ride will be an EV!!! Good Luck... you will have questions along the way and the forum is excellent about answering them. All though they get a little prickly if you ask if it's normal to have a lower range in the winter LOL!!!!

Of course, if not previously mentioned, precondition the MME while plugged in to max the battery.

I own a Jeep so I have learned never to ask what to do about the leaks. So good to know not to mention cold weather and battery life in the same thread. Thanks.

While it seems that chases are discouraged these days, is there any concern over the restrictions on top speed and also the 5 second limitation on full power? Will Ford remove this for the police version?

I hope Mach E will fit your need, and it will be a pleasant experience for you. However, I have doubts.

Assuming Mach E Standard Range RWD.
* That’s 70kWh battery. Daily 15-90% means you have 52kWh. (You could go 0-90% daily, but I prefer to keep a healthy buffer for the unexpected.)
* 50-70 mile drive is 28kWh max (assumes 70 miles at 80 mph) or 15kWh min (assumes 50 miles at city speed). We have 24kWh left in the worst case.
* I would estimate your equipments at 0.2-0.5 kW. So let’s take 4kWh off (0.5kW x 8h). We have 20kWh left.

So the rest is for climate control.
* Will AC need 20kWh to run 8h straight in summer? That’s more than enough. You can rest assured.
* Will heat need 20 kWh to run 8h straight in winter? If your car is equipped with heated wheel and seat (optional on select trim, standard on Premium trim), and you mostly rely on that, you’ll have enough for sure. If you don’t have those or you prefer a toasty cabin for 8 hours, I think it will end badly.

If you had Extended Range, it would be much better. Unfortunately you likely don’t.

I’m really excited to see how your first few encounters with the car are for your daily grind. Granted, my car is a different trim level but it’s neat to hear about everyone’s daily experience with their MMEs. ??

No on the extended range. I’m not sure on seats and wheel. I’ll have too research preconditioning the battery.

Well I can tell you a 4 O'Clock position is not comfortable at all in the MME, I would only imagen the strong side being awful. There is really not much room between the driver and the center console. At least not much for your average fat American like myself ?
