Hey all you audiophiles on the forum, need help. I am just researching and thinking of upgrading the speakers and amp on the MME. I found the article on subwoofer replacement. Got that covered. I also know that the head end unit puts out a digital signal. Also, know that others have put in Audison APF8.9 amp, but professionally installed. What I cannot find is if a DSP amp can connect directly to head end unit or if a interface is needed such as a iDatalink Maestro AR Amplifier Replacement Module. Hope someone that is more of a audio geek can help out. I can do all the installation myself and I am not going to pay someone a few hundred dollars to do the install. Oh, any input on Infinity or Morel speakers. Trying to keep the cost reasonable. Focal would be my first choice but a bit too much in the power

Ok, I know the B&O system sounds good but I like a little better quality amp and speakers that what is provided by the big car manufacturers. Please no input on "just leave alone" or "why do you need to change it" . There are always people who will modify the MME with new wheels, lowering ride height, adding a spoiler, etc. and I am more geared toward audio.

Wait for a Pac Audio interface kit, where you can pull a digital audio connection from the factory Sync system to an amp of your choice. In my old Focus RS, I had originally used a Rockford Fosgate DSR-1 to have a factory-integrated audio output connection, until I then switched to the Pac audio solution, where I pulled a digital audio output via toslink to an Alpine DSP, which then fed 2 amps. Rockford Fosgate might also have a kit for the MME... haven't thought about checking yet.

@connoisseurr Thanks for your note. I was also assuming that I would have to put in interface kit such as Pac, Rockford Fosgate or iDatalink Maestro AR. @elrond upgraded his amp with an Audison APF8.9 amp which was professional installed. He indicated that he kept the stock amp and connected the new amp to the old amp, not sure how that works. I would think you would need an output from the existing B&O amp to feed the signal into the new amp. I will continue to research this. Call Pac and iDatalink to see if they are making interface module. A visit to the local stereo shop perhaps, but not expecting them to be knowledgeable on new cars.

I can give input on Infinity speakers.

I swapped out my factory Bose speakers on my last car (Chevy SS sedan) with Infinity speakers.

Honestly? I was disappointed.

The highs were clearer and more crisp, but I lost a ton of midrange and mid bass.

During the install I installed one speaker at a time so I could listen side by side. And I honestly can’t say they sounded much “better,” they just sounded different.

I stuck with the factory amp though, with an aftermarket amp you would have the advantage of being able to crank them up louder. But honestly I never listen loud enough to distort with the factory amp/speakers. I do love the JL audio sub I added to the Mach E though.
