12 Volt Battery ?

Seems like there is a lot of discussion about the 12 Colt battery and potential problems. How is it charges. I was assuming the car does not have a alternator to charge. Just curious.

There is no alternator. There’s a DC/DC converter that charges the 12V battery from the high voltage battery. Unlike an ICE car, this can happen even when the car is not turned on.

What is the battery size on the mach e as I may prophylactically replace mine with a better battery.

I’ve been comparing my Truck which does have an alternator to the car which of course does not. After sitting for a couple days the battery voltage in the Truck had dipped below 12 volts which results in a red warning light displayed on my Innova battery checker. While I was overseas my Wife would take it out for a drive at least once a week to keep the battery charged up.

It's an AGM battery. They finally got it right. My 2013 Fusion Energi had a wet cell lead acid battery until I changed it to an AGM battery.

Can you provide a citation that backs up that statement?

I've seen in the past few years where batteries of all manufacturers have had some quality issues. I've seen nothing singling out Ford batteries. I believe that Motorcraft batteries are made by Johnson Controls, one of a handful (3?) battery manufacturers. They also make many other brands, including Walmart's EverStart line.

Thanks. Thats what I figured but thought I would ask. Couldnt find much info on it. Would of been nice if the battery was more easily accessible or terminal extensions for easy recharging manually.

Yes, that would have been nice. But there is a solution to make the jump points easier to access.

Car has been sitting for a couple days now. Per the Innova Battery checker the LVB SOC has dropped from 12.75v to 12.5v. Nothing to worry about but I think it would be nice if Fordpass could display the LVB SOC.

It can, they just don't show it to you. Although it isn't very accurate. It only reports without a decimal. So it only says 12v or 13v for example.

What would be the problem if the car just keeps on discharging the 12V until the vehicle no longer functions? 3 times now this has happened the most recent this morning. You would think with a huge battery and plugged in to 240V it could maintain the 12V for a couple of days? Tested here and not the case. Of course I understand ICE drain and alternator required but my truck can sit for months and the battery is fine. The truck has sat more than the car and it starts this morning cranking amps and all. Something is not right with this vehicle.

It can. If yours isn‘t, then it’s not working properly. Have you had 21P22 applied?

Had it done last time the 12V died. Got it without having the roof done . Any other suggestions?

It might be worth asking somebody here with FDRS to double check and make sure the updates were really applied (just in case). If so, and your battery still keeps dying, keep complaining to your dealer.
