Sorry to hear about this. Ford should step up, they hire these people. Not impressed with Ford and the MME the last six months. Very disappointing to hear the issues. Again sorry to hear. Best of luck!
Unfortunately Ford will likely be no help. The tow companies are required to carry their own insurance for this reason.

Sorry for your situation.

Maybe I missed it...is there a proper procedure for a flatbed situation? where should they hook it up to?
I am told the owners manual says to use a winch….but does not say where…

Is this all back and forth on the phone or have you filed an official claim yet?

Personally, I would start by filing a claim with my own insurance company and let them go after the tow company’s insurance policy. Path of least resistance I would think.
yes, I have multiple claims open. Seems my insurance company doesn’t have a box to tick and doesn’t think they can help….First out of any insurance company I have ever dealt with is deny the claim….you have to fight.

The tow manual says to hook in front of the control arms and tie down using the wheels.
it’s too late now but you might want to learn how to jump the 12v and put the vehicle in tow mode. It would have possibly saved you this headache. The random tow guy won’t be bothered learning it.

”Pull over Safely” came up on the dash, so we pulled over to side of highway and called Ford Road Side Assitance. A tow truck was dispatched. Car was dragged on to tow bed with a winch. The first winch snapped. The Ford dealership I was towed to had never worked on an electric car. We were halfway between our home in Canada and our winter place in Florida. On the recommendation of Ford Customer Care, they arranged to have the car transported down to a dealership in Florida. The tow company hooked into the battery rail and damaged the batteries. $28,000 repair bill. Now Ford customer care tells me I have to deal with Agero- claims for Road Side Assistance, that it’s not Ford. Agero denies the claim because it can’t be proven that it was the tow company’a fault it could have happened when the car was transported to Florida. Ford says it’s not their fault. My insurance company says it’s not claimable through them. So I am left finding lawyers in both the US and Canada to deal with this. Then I am sent a survey asking if I would refer Ford to a friend!

I don't have my car yet so forgive my ignorance, but does the vehicle come with any kind of printed matter explaining how to tow? I know the manual is digital, but is there something printed to hand a tow operator that could potentially prevent this? (And if not, perhaps someone can make a PDF that can be laminated and stuffed in the glove box?)

The owners manual is available in PDF form. Print out the section that explains using neutral, tow mode, and jumping the 12v.
the tow manual is available through the link on the first page of this thread.

What part of the battery is damaged? The most common seems to be the battery rails that tow truck drivers like to hook onto. But those rails can be replaced without replacing the whole battery.
I believe the battery rails are structural, and cannot be 'replaced' without draining coolant, removing pack, opening up the case and transferring still good batteries to a new case. All labor that could only be done by authorized and trained shop. Might as well swap in a new pack, and sell the cells for parts or other use.

This is a good opportunity to mention that any 'service lift' doing tire swaps or other maintenance may cause irreparable damage to battery frame rails if they position lift pads on the rails, rather than the designated lift points. If battery frame rails crush, they will lose structural integrity.

The only 'fix' I can think of would be to fabricate some permanently mounted 'lift pads' that include a U-channel fitting over the battery rail in the areas that lift jacks might be used.

Our Tesla Model Y has holes in the edge of the frame for "pucks" to be inserted so that lift jacks can use them and not damage the battery. Is there something like that for the Mach e?

Damn this is scary. Any pics of the area the hooked too so it can be prevented? Should be a notice sent out to tow companies. Hope it gets sorted out.

Ford picked the tow company, they are at least partly to blame for not vetting who they refer. I agree it's the insurance from the tow company that needs to take responsibility, but Ford needs to take responsibility for not informing the tow company of how to properly tow the Mach E, making it difficult / non obvious how to do so, possibly take the tow company off the list of who they use, etc...
