So today i had my first and only crash in 17 years.
And it was a very stupid one.
Some of you read my previous post about my doughnuts on wet grass and loads of sensors and functionality playing up after this...
So... one of the functionality was the HOLD feature not working.
So today i went to a drive through car wash, queued up, released all pedals once stationary and got busy with radio and something else, raised my head just to realise that i am slowly moving towards the car in front of me. I automatically slammed the pedal to stop, unfortunately i slammed the accelerator by mistake and smashed in the pickup standing in front of me. I am still struggling to believe it happened. Now reading about mixed up pedals, its more common then i thought it would be. Kicking myself big time. It's 100% my fault but it would not have happened if the Hold feature would not have broken last week. The car was supposed to go in for warranty work on Monday, now it's gone in for insurance work first?‍♂ i feel a bit shaken and stiff neck but i am glad there was a car in front of me, not a person. Lesson learned- if parked up- do not rely on Hold feature, put it in P.
My previous car also had Hold so i have gotten very used to it in last couple years that not having it stung me real bad. And how on earth i got the pedals wrong i dont know. Back to tarnsit van for few weeks till they sort the damage?‍♂?‍♂?

I’m gonna be a jerk here, but this just doesn’t surprise me at all after your donuts in grass post. Like not one bit. Glad you and the other person are ok though. Good luck on the repairs.

Just an FYI for the future, for the Hold function, it doesn't activate when the vehicle is stationary. You have to FULLY press the brake pedal all the way to the floor to engage it. If you come to a complete stop with the brake only partially down, it won't engage.

Does your 1PD not work either?

I've never had a problem with keeping my foot on the brake when standing, anticipating a slow crawl such as at a car wash.

Hope it's not out of service long.

True. Another instance of technology 'helping'.

It works in mine without touching the brake pedal at all while in 1PD, and auto holds after coming to a stop without slamming the brake with 1PD off. Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post though.

@xingusx that sucks. Damage doesn’t look too bad especially with no radiator/engine up front… although parts might take a long time.

Wild guess here but here it goes...
I don't know if OP is using 1PD all the time or not...

Since I am learning 1PD driving I can imagine brain trained to keep foot on the accelerator only.
Because with 1PD you either press down for gas or let OFF for break.
There is no foot movement right/left.
Previously we were used to always move left(Break), right(gas).
Now we think of only 1 paddle so I can imagine foot remaining stationary and just pressing it.

BTW: Wife asked this... what happens in an accident when someone hits you from behind? Does your foot press on the gas? I would think so because that's where my foot will be and NOT on a break like we normally have.

As with the Hold function my 1PD also has stopped working, so i was basically rolling slowly up to a stop point and as used to that the car Holds i think i released the pedals and it started rolling, the rest is a bit blurry as happened real fast, i know i had not freaked out like this ever, can still see the moment when i understand i have accelerated and i am hitting the car in front and there is nothing i can do. I dont think i will fully ever understand how and why mo foot landed on the wrong pedal after driving for 17 years daily. Definitely the Hold function and the 1PD function and having a new car combination did not help but my brain played a trick, and i was not tired and had no drink night before... just extremely bizarre i can nearly make myself believe that the pedal i hit was the right one but it accelerated instead of breaking, but dont think a glitch to a level like this would be possible, it must have been my brain?‍♂
I only had her for two weeks???

There is a setting in the menu to enable autohold when it comes to a stop without fully pressing the break.

I also never had a problem with any type of driving or pedal combination. Drive vans, cars, trucks daily. Until this "lovely" morning turned everything upside-down.
