Dealer is giving me the run around, not telling me if charger is under warranty or how long it will take to get one if it is. Extremely disapointed in how sevice in this short time has been from Ford. My charger has been working the last 7 months i've had the car, but it has shorted. Gives a fault in either a 120 or 220V outlets. I had my electrician put in a new panel ($3000), an outlet outside and I bought an extension cord to charge using the one that came with the car, but now I can't use it. I want a better outside device, but coming to find that the I have by code a GFCI breaker and any other plug in like Grizzly has their own on the device and will constantly trip my breaker. Is there any solution other than paying the electrician even more to hard line a unit? I can't even find how to purchase another Ford travel one if I have to. Any reasonably priced alternatives that don't have GFCI built in?

The grizzl-e classic will work with a GFCI outlet. Just buy it directly from their website to make sure you get an updated version.
Also the mobile charger should be covered by the vehicle warranty.

The charger is warrantied just like the car. Tell the dealer you want a warranty replacement NOW.

Have you checked with your utility company to see if they sell discounted chargers, or give a rebate for specific brands / models?

Most plug-in chargers come with GFI protection I believe.

Did you try the Grizzl-E and it is tripping your breaker, or have you heard that it might so you haven't tried it? Because the Grizzl-E's manual says:

The Charger is equipped with GFCI. Additional downstream GFCI is not required. In locations where GFCI at the outlet is mandated by code, the charger will not experience negative effects.

Good to know- just reading the Amazon reviews, have not tried it yet. Just looking into options. I drive 70 miles for work a day and charging out all the time is crappy. Although I can charge at work, but they want to limit it to 2 hours a day which is no good. Thank you all that replied so far. I feel this forum is the best support.

I've got a Grizzl-e classic and I really like it -- just works, no wifi to mess with, sw to configure etc. I don't have a GFCI on the breaker or plug though so can't comment on that.

Take a video of you plugging everything in and showing that it doesn't work. Go to the dealer and ask them to verify your concern, they need to take care of this because the mobile charger is a warrantable part on the vehicle, not an accessory. Make sure they realize it's covered by the 36k warranty and Ford will pay for a new one. If they won't look at it show them the video. This is no different than if the charging port was broken, both things are covered by warranty the same way. If they don't have a 240V outlet to test it, that's their own damn fault so they should order you a new one. If the dealer won't service this issue tell them their EV certified status might be in jeopardy if you have to call Ford about this.

The old firmware was causing issues with GFCIs. They updated it last year. Amazon may or may not be new stock yet.
I have the avalanche version so it has less chance to overheat in direct sunlight. It’s plugged into a GFCI breaker and haven’t had any issues in 3 months.

Is it possible to update the firmware on a non-smart Grizzl-e? I have the Avalanche from about a year ago, and it will trip on an outlet protected by GFCI at the breaker.

I am going to email the service manager the videos. He is known to not get back to me on other issues. May just show up there Friday. They are trying to schedule me next week, but I can't take another day off of work or leave the car all day. On another note, is there a way to secure the Grizzl-e so it can't be stolen?

Yes, there is a lock core they sell that will attach between the Grizzl-e and the mounting plate.

I’m sure it’s possible but you’d had to ask them directly if they will do it. Probably involves sending the control board to them in Canada.

this lock will work perfectly as well but you can still use a 90° ratcheting bit to get it off the bracket somewhat quickly.

Im not sure this is the full answer you need, but we use our son's 240 DC charger for his Chevy. We have never once used the charger the MachE came with, and his charger, which he bought at Home Depot, works great!

I had to call the dealer again today and they agreed to look at the charger, but said they are on back order with no ETA. He said there a none in the country at all! How is this at all possible? I ordered the Grizzl-e from Amazon -- the seller is out of Canada and assures me it is the updated Firmware. Should have tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it works good!!!
