I can't believe the repair costs. Watch weight in the rear.

One observation - everyone keeps referencing the plastic brackets failing. Pick up the shelf and push on it. It flexes. That should be the first indication that it's not designed for much weight. I wouldn't step on it in the upper position.

This is a sports car IMO. It is not a truck. I own a truck. You can rent a truck from home stores, or from U-Haul, and not damage your sports car.
A sports cars lol, no the Mach-e is not remotely close to being able to be called a sports car. The whole point of having a hatch with rear seats that fold down rear is for being able to put items like some flooring in the vehicle without the need to own or rent a truck.

Sorry that this happed to the OP, adjustable cargo floors have been around for ages and there are plenty that are designed to be able to take the weight in either position, the implementation as used on the Mach-e is not one of them :(.

I think you meant to buy the Ford F 150 Electric.

Matt, don't feel bad. If I picked up a load right after getting my car, I would have done the same thing. I am also glad you posted about this because it will alert others to the option of lowering the floor.

I knew I could lower the floor, but when I first got the car it was not one of the first things I tried to figure out how to do. And I would have loaded it up, just like you. And broke my brackets, just like you. I guess I am an idiot also. :D

My floor is always in the lower position. Not for this reason, but because I like how the lower level corrals grocery bags.
Somewhat tangential, but the Ford trunk rubber mat won’t fit properly if the floor isn’t at the lowest level. That’s why mine was switched to the lower level as soon as I got home and put them in.

People are being a bit harsh about all of this. A simple comment about lowering the floor would have sufficed.

LMAO you guys are brutal. Yeah, he probably should have realized a lot of weight would be a problem, especially when it's not in the lowest position, but he's just offering his experience and opinion.

Definitely not a sports car. I don't even consider the Mach E an SUV. With it's low ground clearance, it's honestly a......STATION WAGON. It's a great looking car, but the Mach E has essentially the same ground clearance as the Dodge Magnums did. And they have several inches less clearance than Volvo and Mercedes wagons.

I agree 1000%. He made a mistake because of something he didn't know, which we all have done. Many times. His post will help others learn before they do it.

I don't blame Ford, however. I think it is appropriate to take personal responsibility for making the mistake and damaging your car without attacking the company that made it. The design is fine, as long as you understand how it is designed, right?

He’s not wrong; it’s not a great design. I keep the load floor in the lowest position only because I want the additional few inches of space (hey, a few inches matters!), but it’s clear that a big panel supported by small plastic brackets is just begging for trouble (and it’s found a lot of it from what I can see on the forum here).

Not to keep comparing the Mach-E to my beloved Acura RDX (but I will, yet again), the rear floor was a heavy duty folding panel with storage compartments underneath. The panel was supported by a T-frame compartment set-up basically so you could open the first full-width under floor compartment or fold the panel back on its hinges and lift to access the two smaller compartments beyond that. Not only was it convenient for smuggling, but the design let you put ridiculous amounts of weight in the back and easily overwhelm the max weight load for the whole car listed in the manual.

So, keep it in the lower position 24/7 and if you’re moving flooring or wet mulch or a portable generator, rent a truck. :)

I loaded a set of dumbbells into my MME today, and thought of reading this thread. I lowered the floor before loading the 3 heavy boxes. Probably saved me from the same fate, so thanks for posting @Dr Obnxs. I think I'll leave the load floor in the lower position from now on.

I put mine in the lower position pretty soon after taking delivery. The space under the panel is almost useless. What is it - 3"? What can fit there? I have a couple of things I use for photo shoots that I keep in the back that seem small to me - light stand, tripod, umbrella - but they don't fit.

My complaint is not with the mount, but with the two-level idea in the first place!
