A sports cars lol, no the Mach-e is not remotely close to being able to be called a sports car. The whole point of having a hatch with rear seats that fold down rear is for being able to put items like some flooring in the vehicle without the need to own or rent a truck. One observation - everyone keeps referencing the plastic brackets failing. Pick up the shelf and push on it. It flexes. That should be the first indication that it's not designed for much weight. I wouldn't step on it in the upper position.
This is a sports car IMO. It is not a truck. I own a truck. You can rent a truck from home stores, or from U-Haul, and not damage your sports car.
Sorry that this happed to the OP, adjustable cargo floors have been around for ages and there are plenty that are designed to be able to take the weight in either position, the implementation as used on the Mach-e is not one of them
