When I put the car into park, it triggers the garage door opener. First time bringing it home, I wasn't sure if it would fit through the door so I stopped, put it park to look and the garage door started coming down and hit the hood!!! I backed out and put the car in park again and it triggered the garage door again!

It scratched the hood but it's should buff out. Still horrible for the first day of ownership.

That’s crazy, is it a really old garage door opener? I don’t see how RF could randomly open an opener with rolling codes.

It's a Craftsman, it's about 15 years old. There is some ice near the ledge because the snow has been melting and thawing repeatedly so maybe that triggered it to freak out. It doesn't look like it went through the clear coat or left a dent.

The sensors on the bottom should stop it from coming down because the car is breaking the beam...

Really weird. Maybe you can reset all of the garage door codes and see if it still happens.

Not all older garage doors have the sensors and some people bypass them when installing.

I am guessing the sensors didn't work if the wheels were cutting the beam. I half pulled in and wanted to make sure the mirrors would clear.

I am going to change the garage codes and experiment with the car far away from the door.

Called my dealer to see if they know what could have happened too....

They've been required by law since 1993. If they're bypassed, or not working, that's unfortunate. Hindsight is 20/20, and I don't do this either, but like smoke detectors the manuals suggest a monthly test of safety features, including the auto-reverse and the sensors.

Luckily it sounds like it will buff out. OP should not test any further without the ability to immediately reverse it with a remote or the control on the wall.

If you can physically set/change the codes, I’d think it’s older than 15 years.

Unless he stopped with the tires blocking the beam, the sensor wouldn’t see anything. I’ve see a door hit a car that was halfway in, tires straddling the sensor beam.

Sure. If the beam went through in front of or behind the tires, i.e. clearing the car, which means they're mounted too low (supposed to be 4 to 6 inches). My vote is they're not functional.

I opened my remote, it doesn't have dip switches so I guess its not reconfigurable. Yeah the front wheels could have been in the beam but I am not sure. It might have been just in front of the beam.
