The floor is soaked too because of massive snow melt. Maybe it was just a coincidence and the garage door opener freaked out on it's own. The remote wasn't even in the car at the time. Oh shit, it was in my pocket. Maybe I just moved and that triggered it.

Sure. If the beam went through in front of or behind the tires, i.e. clearing the car, which means they're mounted too low (supposed to be 4 to 6 inches). My vote is they're not functional.
The one I witnessed was an Explorer. It clears a properly installed sensor.

In this case, if shifting to Park triggers the GDO, hard to say what else is not functioning properly.

Maybe his neighbor snuck into the garage a while back and programmed another remote, and pressed the button at just the right time. ?

Only solution OP, is to just throw out the whole garage and start from scratch. Ya know what, the whole house too. Let's not cut any corners on this solution! ?

In all seriousness, I'm voting that bad sensors could be to blame, both on the floor and in the housing for the opener to receive the signal to open and close. Might be best to get a new opener to avoid the mess completely unless you like to tinker with things.

Yikes. That sucks! Just like that stupid moron who had his minivan on ramps a few decades back and decided to roll it back in neutral without starting it, with the door open, and didn't get the door closed in time... What a schmuck he was...

So top tip for everyone else. Don't take the garage door opener out of your old car and just shove it in your pocket. I guess you always fret the first scratch on a new car so I got this out of the way early and it looks like it will buff out.

Yeah, my brother still hasn’t learned. He Carrie’s his garage door transmitter in his jacket pocket. He has damned-near clobbered my cars on several occasions. I have learned to put something in the way of the eye beam when my cars are straddling it. The one car he couldn’t do that to was my street Celica because it was so stupidly low. ??

Thanks for the tip. Check your sensors.

Tip from me and others. Park your car, open hatch carefully and ensure it clears garage door in all positions, AND ADJUST HEIGHT IF NECESSARY.

When I put the car into park, it triggers the garage door opener. First time bringing it home, I wasn't sure if it would fit through the door so I stopped, put it park to look and the garage door started coming down and hit the hood!!! I backed out and put the car in park again and it triggered the garage door again!

It scratched the hood but it's should buff out. Still horrible for the first day of ownership.

Parking outside until I can figure this out...
Now that you've figured it out. Please change the thread title to
"Going into park triggers my garage door opener -- NOT!"

The garage has the safety sensors. They might be too low for the Mach e. Should be easy enough to move them up to prevent future mistakes. I will definitely measure the open trunk height to make sure it can fully open inside the garage before parking inside.

Well at least after 7 months, I have a car again!!!

I have to admit, when I picked up my Mach-E, I had my remote in my pocket. But I tossed it into the cup holder before I pulled off the dealer lot. I really wasn’t thinking about an accidental trigger, I just got lucky!

The sensors on the bottom should stop it from coming down because the car is breaking the beam...
Only if the tires happen to be blocking the sensor, at least that's how low my garage sensors are mounted. I know this because the !@#$@% tesla I had, 3 times I tried to use summon to back the car out. All 3 times the car stopped 1/3 the way out, stops, and proceeded to close my garage door. I ran to trip the sensor on the garage door to reverse it. Of the 3yrs I had that car, summoning it out of my garage worked ONCE. Never tried it again after it sent the garage door closing.
