Question to anyone: do you expect/want release notes to go into this level of detail of things that changed?
Yes. At least in the early access program so we know what to keep an eye out for. It seems to me that Ford is missing the value of having a thousand people banging on their software for glitches, which is what I thought the purpose of the EA program was.

I also agree with the idea of a details button to give People that are interested in what’s changing that information without bombarding people that don’t care with data overload.

That would be the IPC update. Do you have an orange snowflake now too (if it’s cold outside)?
I have no idea. I'll have to watch for that one.

Going to be above freezing here today so I doubt I'll see it.

Doesn't look like the update has arrived to me just yet, checked the "Update Now" option and no luck. Where would I look to check the current version that I have?

About Sync shows Sync 4 Software Version 21281_Product Revision:244

Expect--no. Want--yes. How about balance with a basic description and then "click for details"
Yup. Let's say an update changes the display order for drive modes from its former order to something else (E-W-U to W-E-U or whatever). If the patch notes say "various tweaks and bug fixes", you have no idea that there was supposed to be a change. If my car tells me it had successfully downloaded and installed updated 21.1 then I'd assume that it installed everything. If I had patch notes that told me what it did, then I'd know that car really did not install update 21.1 and could report it through the car's bug reporting system. You know, the system that doesn't exist for all practical purposes.

Absolutely. The detailed release notes don't need to be front and center since most people won't care. But I would love to have them accessible somewhere for those who want them, even if it's only a website somewhere and not viewable in the car.

I appreciate the humor. I also appreciate that @Ford Motor Company is trying and this is their first run out of the gate at interaction on this type of media with customers. I hope we don’t scare them away ?
No, it's not.

Ford was on forums for years, and then vanished. They had a presence on an F-150 forum I frequent starting on 10/25/2010, then stopped posting in Feb 2017. Ford left a bunch of social media around then, and has just returned. So they had lots of time to learn.

Exactly. There should be a summary, with more detail available, and even more if you click through.

When a software developer says they don't have time to document, or can't remember what they did X releases ago, it shows a broken process. The ones documenting aren't the developers...

I did not know that history. Anyway, I still hope we don’t scare them away ? I’ve seen it happen in other contexts.

I wonder how these OTA bundles will be handled on cars that already have the included versions installed through the dealer or FDRS at home. Will the OTA still queue up and report success if the modules are already up to date? Or will that particular OTA never even get queued for the car if it's not needed? It looks like the modules in 2.4.2 have already been available in FDRS, but I don't think the IPC update in 2.4.3 is in FDRS yet.

I'm tempted to say yes, the OTAs will get queued still. I had an FDRS license when 1.7.1 was rolling out, and installed it via FDRS rather than OTA... Feeling very lucky to have done that since that particular OTA was botched so badly for some folks. But since then my car has gotten 2.1.0 and 2.3.0 OTA

2.4.1 was queued for me on 2/20, but it failed and hasn't tried again. I think that was just a GWM update, which I likely already had through FDRS. So now I'm wondering if the reason it failed is because I didn't need it, or if it would report success if it tried and everything was already up to date.

Sorry. I misunderstood your question and reread.. if the modules are up to date already, I don't think the corresponding update should queue. @benk016 can probably fact check me here, but I'm pretty sure the last step of any FDRS module update routine is to update the Ford servers with the new version number.

This tracks for me, as when I did the 1.7.1 version of the sync update, the actual OTA version of that update never queued and I just skipped to 2.1.0 when it was released

Side note... Nobody confirmed what modules 2.4.1 actually hit, but someone did report that the audio feedback for driver assistance changed. So I think that means either IPC or APIM or both?
