How many cars/trucks uses the OTA in their lease program. So, they are using the lease Customers as testors, if the fix breaks their cars, what is going happen then.

So to determine the fix is good, how many cars that have the problems are leased?
To determine if the fix does not cause problems with APIM that don't have the problem, how many cars are leased?

I have a hard time understanding that rationale.

So I am ready to call this car a lemon. Going to the dealership on Monday. Fourth time now to get this fixed. I mean one of the reasons I got the car was blue cruise which I assume I can’t get now.

Finally, I received some communication from a Ford insider on this issue and people aren't going to be happy. Ford is testing a NEW solution to our 1.7.1 update with the Ford Management Lease vehicles and once they are satisfied the "fix" works on all cars and doesn't cause additional problems they will release the fix by the end of March (maybe sooner). The goal post keeps moving back I'm afraid. This problem must be a a lot bigger then what we all thought originally. Bottom line, continue to wait and hope that the March date(s) finally put this whole problem to rest.

The last line read "We truly appreciate your patience and willingness to participate as one of our Ford Early Access Program Members. It is because of customers like you that we were able to get this issue identified sooner and work towards a fix. We realize it has taken too long and that, we will also address." At least they appear to have copped a mea culpa in stating that this has taken too long (yah think?) and they will address that. I'd like Ford to come clean and explain what exactly is wrong and causing this problem.
Well at least there is a fix somewhere on the horizon.

So I took the car in yesterday for 21p22 and the 1.7.1 bug. “We’ve already given you 21p22!” “No, you have not updated 6 of the modules on the list, and no other dealer will touch the car until you finish this.”

“okay, we’ll take a look.
What’s this about 1.7.1?”

“I can’t get OTA’s.”

“what is that?”

@$&!!&@@.

So the dealers have no idea what’s going on.

They are using Ford Employee Lease customers and NOT public lease owners as test cars. I don't know how many Ford Lease employees are involved with this testing. So there are no worries about lease customers being used as guinea pigs.

If you're having the 1.71 update problem, it's not getting fixed at your Monday appointment. Sounds like the fix hasn't made it to the dealers yet, just into beta testing at Ford.

Doesn't help dealers like this that we can run FDRS and call them out on their crap... lol. The 1.7.1 thing you can only blame Ford, dealers can't be expected to fix what Ford doesn't know how to fix all the time. From what I've seen this is a race condition and ONCE IN A BLUE MOON it's possible to still run the update. I think that's why they are having issues because they found some things that "sometimes" work.

The dealer didn’t even know what 1.7.1 2”was, and I don’t think he understood me when I said OTA. So while the faults occurring are on ford, the lack on knowledge is a combo of the dealer and the manufacturer.

Ford really needs to get an infastructure, or bandwith or whatever, to be able to send out OTA's to everyone that wants them, in a timely manner. The current dripping out and stalling of OTA's isn't working.

So you would rather Ford continue pushing updates out, even when it's breaking things on cars?

The issue isn't bandwidth, or infrastructure. It's making sure the updates they push don't break more cars and avoiding future issues like this one.

I was truly hoping that the fix would be out in February. But when there was no big party announcing that all is well by the third week of the month, I did not hold out much hope.

I called my dealer and asked if I should come back in for the software fix or an APIM replacement since it was now March and it still is not working. They called me back later and said that they checked with Ford and the word is to keep waiting. He seemed to think that from what they got from Ford, March would be the magic month, but that could just be blowing smoke to keep me from getting angry.

Like you, I would like to know exactly what caused this, but I doubt we will ever know, unless someone with inside knowledge leaks it out.

And Ford is going to have to offer something more than a few kWh of free charging to make up for this! 99% of my charging is done at home.

So I have reset my countdown clock to the end of March. That is 29 days, 13 hours, 36 min, and 58 seconds from now.....

:(

I also got a similar response today. It sounds like, based on the available information, that the original plan was to have a release by the end of February (as noted in SSM 50383). Ford tests all their software updates on their Ford Management Lease vehicles prior to public release and as they were testing a fix for this issue found the fix had the possibility to fail. They've now addressed that and are currently re-testing it internally. The current plan is to release this fix to Early Access members if no other issues are found by the end of March (1 month delay) with a note to hopefully release it sooner.

I think the biggest issue is the lack of formal communication on the issue and associated progress being made. I was also told that there is a forthcoming communication on this topic to early access members to address this.

Personally, I'd rather just wait for this fix rather than trying to go to an uninformed dealer who is going to either keep your vehicle for a while and not fix anything or tell you it's fixed and it's not and just cause more problems. So for now I'll put down my pitchfork until March 31... luckily for Ford they get 3 more days in March than February :).

Lol. Hear, hear, for avoiding the dealer. Each and every time I've brought it in for a software revision of any kind, I came back with a few new problems, without fail (such as the screen brightness issue, which only manifested after a dealer software update).

@Ford Motor Company If you're listening, I've been trying to join the Early Access Program for almost a year now, and haven't been able to. Please get me in on the program!
