It is now March 2022. Taking the fed tax rebate out of the equation, it feels odd to buy a 2021 off the lot for MSRP (especially with ADM). The car is officially last years' model. I have an order for a 2022 but who knows when that comes in; probably close to 2023! I guess it is more of a patience issue. I don't really have a question, just thinking out loud.

In normal times, people bought last year's model for a year or even eighteen months after the year ended.

Yep, what RickMachE said. Many dealerships (across brands) have historically sold previous year and current year models simultaneously as "new". Plus, very little to no changes occurred between the two except for different "usable battery" and a few deleted/bundled options.

I bought a 2015 in April of 2016. Got a good deal on it too. Nothing new.

Which trim did you order?

The Premiums lost front side window acoustic laminate and the hands-free portion of the power liftgate for 2022, so a 2022 won't necessarily be better in every way (assuming it is Job 2 2021, i.e. built in or after July 2021).

Doesn’t work for me but for some it does, basically it’s just personal preference.

Are you worried about resale value? If so, wait for the 22.

I'm used to buying/leasing the next model year late in the year. IE a 2023 model in late 2022

That is the issue nowadays. No good deals for last year's "new" model.

Even though you mention taking the tax rebate out of the equation, if you assume anything delivered in 2023 will lose $3750, I could see people buying what's on the lot and just paying a slight ADM. $2-3k or less is probably acceptable for some folks.

I'm now 25+ weeks since ordered placed and it's still stuck in production (6+ months).

Similar to delays in 2021, I'm guessing that 2022 recent orders may not even show up this year.

Yes. It does make sense, if you like the car.
