I have a deposit on a 2022 Mach E Premium AWD ER and I am wondering how it will fare from Calgary to Invermere and back. I am hoping I can get each way without charging in the summer for sure and wondering what it is like in the winter.

Anybody have experience with that route?

Thanks

We have the same 2021 model as the 2022 you have ordered. Have no experience with the Calgary to Invermere route however we have done Vancouver to Kamloops via the Coquihalla in the early fall.

You should be fine without charging in the summer. However, be aware that wind, road conditions, temperature all play a part in your range. Have a back up plan in case you do need to charge. Check the Petro-Can and Electrify Canada apps for charger locations. Petro-Can is less expensive than EC.

Winter will likely require a charge. Again, temperature, road conditions (snow), snow tires and the need for heat in the car will severely lower your range. We have gone from 465 km range in the summer to as low as 325 km in the winter (we live on Vancouver Island). I would definately plan to charge on the winter trip.

You will love the car, we do.

Go to www.abetterrouteplanner.com. Pick the 2022 Mach-E, and plan the route. You can play with the temperature also.

In the summer, should be a non-issue.
In the dead of winter, you'll need to charge partway.

Thanks for the tip!

I was playing with the ABRP app. Pretty cool how you can adjust speed, temperature and wind.

Did you get to Kamloops on one charge in summer?
I went on the hottest day and had to charge on route.
But I did have a couple of stops for phone calls on the way and I may have kept a quick pace over the hills.

We live in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Left home at 100%, arrived in Hope with 37%, charged to 80%. Going up the Coquihalla was not as bad as we feared and we did gain going down to Merritt. Kept our speed 100 - 105 km/hr going up. Could have made it to Kamloops with probably 13% remaining but did a quick charge in Merritt (bathroom break). With the additional charge in Merritt we were able to increase our speed on the climb out of Merritt.

Another interesting thing we discovered on the ferry to Vancouver is the vibration of the ferry sets off the motion alarm. Haven't figured out how to avoid that for future trips.

I’ve got a 6 hour ferry crossing coming up on the 24th March. Turning the motion sensors to Off according to the information (i) icon (Settings/Vehicle/Alarm System) should be used when parked on a ferry, train, or parking lift etc.

I notice also that if you set the motion sensors to Off, lock the car and then unlock the car the motion sensors change back to On. I assume they only change back to ‘On’ when the car is unlocked. That makes sense, as I for one would probably forget to turn them on again.

Has anyone turned the motion sensors Off for a Ferry crossing?

I have an AWD SR and when I drove from North Surrey/Delta to Squamish (~96km) in February, I used about 30% battery. I had started with 100% and pre-conditioned the car before I left.

I haven't done any longer trips to Hope or Kelowna yet but am curious to see how my SR Mach-E will do for efficiency.

I would love to attempt the trip to Calgary this summer, but it am concerned about the frequent charging stops and charging speed as the highest I have seen my Mach-E charge at is 75kW.

With the smaller battery, I will definitely require more charging stops to complete the trip to Calgary. I looked it up on ABRP and depending on the efficiency, it would take anywhere from 3-5 charging stops.

On our ferry trip we turned the motion sensors off, got out of the car, locked it and walked away. Luckily, we didn't go very far and the alarm went off. Tried a couple of times with no luck. There are multiple threads about the motion sensor setting not staying off. Not sure what we will do on our next ferry trip.

Did you single or double lock the car? Meaning did you press the lock button once or twice?

Sorry another question. How did you turn the motion sensors off? Did you use Settings/Vehicle/Alarm System or simple press the on screen Yes button when you turned the car off?

Pressed the Yes button. Should we have gone in through Settings?
