I think turning off Auto OTA will be your friend then. I have mine set that way and it works out because I can decide when to let it update. I get a notice that says the update is ready and then it sits there until I decide to allow installation.
I have auto updates turned off too. However, those updates that inhibit car use, do not start at some random time, but require you to consent to the update.

The problem is you never know when you may need the car in an emergency or urgent situation. If something comes up and you need to use it at an off time when the update is being done you’re stuck. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t schedule the updates in the middle of the night when people are least likely to need their car.
Are you in early access?

Set a schedule to update about a half an hour after you get to work.

Or right before you leave for work and use it as an excuse. If that's your sort of thing
"sorry I'm late - was waiting on the car to update"
"but.... This is the OTA team..."
"yeah, and?"

My car just did the 2.4.2 update and it took about 30 minutes. I don't think the 8-5 is absolutely required, that is probably when technical help is available for this update.

It's 8am-11pm and the emails spells out pretty clearly that it's not required.

Set a schedule to update about a half an hour after you get to work.
I thought the car had to be connected to wifi to do the updates, or dies that just make it faster?

That is called an Outlier and is not an everyday situation. Saying Ford is unreasonable for asking you to pick and time that works best for you, but you can't be bothered is not a Ford problem.

If Ford said schedule for 2 AM to 4 AM someone would complain "What if I had to take my child to the ER?"

It's called Life. Find a scheduled time that works for YOU, or let Ford decide for you.
I think I asked a pretty reasonable question. Ford gave options to make our car a brick for some unspecified period of time but suggested that wechoose to do it during the very time periods when most people need to use their car and specifically asked that we NOT do it when we least need the car and when it would be most convenient for the vast majority of people. At first glance it makes no sense is all Im saying.

Blue cruise isn't that great it always wants to ride the car on the right side of the lane so if somebody is a little wobbly you always feel like you're gonna get hit by the car next to you.
