It must be frustrating for everyone.

i am currently in the Netherlands, this week i was about to get my car (demo RWD SR car with 200km milage) from an official dealer.

Do you guys think it will also effect cars in the europe? I checked vin but currently no recall is shown..

It probably will but we on this side of the pond seem to be months behind our US friends. The time line stated for affected cars is May 2020 to May 2022 builds, which in my mind means that there is the potential that just about EVERY MME that has left Mexico could be affected. I spoke to my dealer yesterday who said he hadn't heard about this issue. He rang his contact at Ford who also stated the same. How true that is, we will never know.

Sad to hear this for everyone who has been waiting and will now have their delivery pushed back (I'm still waiting on a production date), but is likely good news for those of us with early 2022 orders as this decreases the chance that Ford could cross the 200,000 vehicle threshold in Q2 for tax credit purposes. So it seems highly likely now that the full $7,500 tax credit will be in effect through the rest of 2022.
There was never any danger that Ford would cross the 200K threshold with just a month left in this quarter. At the end of May, they were at roughly 173K qualifying vehicles sold to date (18.5K YTD for 2022). With this latest hiccup, I have the feeling they may not cross the threshold until late in Q3, if that.

I did an experiment on my way home from work this evening to test if I could make the car angry enough to fault my already replaced HVJB. Doesn't get too much stressyer for real world driving. Left work and gunned it around the corner, squealing tires as I went. Pushed the pedal to the floor and launched like a rocket off the on ramp. Spun the tires again as hard as I could making my next turn at the light a quarter mile down the road. As soon as finished rounding the corner I dropped the pedal to the floor again until I hit 90ish then let it settle back on its own down to 63. Rode at 63 for about 16 miles. Caught up to a person and floored it again to pass, and because I wanted to stress the car as much as I could I climbed up to around 85 as fast as she would get there then settled back to 63 for the rest of the ride home. Now she is plugged into a DC charger to put some juice back in for the rest of me week. And she is charging just fine and at the normal pace for the charger. So if this helps people to stop freaking the fuck out about riding the car gently and not driving it anywhere, take it from someone that drives this car almost as hard as I can on a daily basis, your car is probably just fine to continue driving like you normally would. Shit happens, recalls come out for ICE vehicles all the time. No one should have expected this car to be any different. Now stop worrying so damn much, wait for full details like sane people should, Ford will give full instructions on what to do and the problem will be fixed and we can move on to bigger and better things, like how the hell do I get bugs to stop hitting my windshield and my car in general! Stay clean damn it!
Thank you for sacrificing a few months of your tire lifetime for our collective peace of mind lol

Is it confirmed now that it will be a software update at least for now? And as a result our deliveries won't be delayed by that long? Or is it all still somewhat up in the air?

This would be the best news (for me at least). I am currently borrowing a car from family, and my delivery was 2 weeks away

Correct and I saw a headline the big guys (Ford, GM etc.) want the tax credit to end, this will put a roadblock in for the other EV manufactures that are behind them. Slow the competition!
You misread. Ford, and others, want the tax credit to extend beyond 200k vehicles. This would benefit some of the competitors for whom the tax credit is no longer eligible.

The recall has now been posted to the NHTSA website with lots of details.

They confirm it's only a software update:

Remedy

Dealers will update the on-board software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 18, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S41.
And every listed component (all 50 of them) in the attached PDF is software - no physical parts mentioned.

The document also confirms updates will be available in July (not just the vague "Q3" we heard yesterday).

It also describes what the software will do:

The updated SOBDMC software (LJ98-14G069-AXG, LJ98-14G069-AZG, from Recalled Component : LJ98-14G069-BBG, LJ98-14G069-BDG) will monitor contactor
temperature and intelligently reduce battery power to prevent damage to the contactor.

The updated BECM software (NJ98-14C197-AE, NJ98-14C197-BD) will monitor contactor resistance to identify an overheated contactor and reduce vehicle power to prevent further damage.
It sounds to me like this will reduce power only when a dangerous situation with the contactors has been detected - I imagine when you've got the combination of DCFC and flooring the pedal that Ford mentioned yesterday.

On the bottom of page 10, it says the problem was corrected in production simply by introducing new software on May 25, 2022. The speculation about different hardware being used in post-May 25 builds seems to have been unfounded:

Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production:

The updated SOBDMC software and BECM software was introduced into production on May 25, 2022.
Other interesting historical details:

On April 12, 2022, an issue pertaining to high voltage battery main contactor overheating was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group for review.

Chronology :
In April and May of 2022, Ford investigated warranty claims to quantify performance differences between vehicle variants. Ford conducted a read-across of other vehicle lines utilizing high voltage battery contactors.

Between July 13, 2021 and May 31, 2022, there have been 286 warranty claims in North America related to an open or welded contactor. Ford is aware of one VOQ* alleging a no-start and listing DTCs related to this concern.

On June 3, 2022, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

No, it does say it will be OTA. From page 10 of the recall PDF:

Ford is anticipated to begin Over-The-Air (OTA) deployment to update the SOBDMC an BECM software for affected vehicles in July 2022. Alternatively, owners will have the option to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to complete the software update. There will be no charge for this service.

Here’s hoping the software update will be available to dealers prior to this to get those of us on delivery hold taken care of lol. Mine is at my dealer but I can’t get it until this is fixed. Fingers crossed!

Ironically, despite the headline of the first post in this thread, the NHTSA recall specifically says you should "call your dealer"! ?

Information as to the applicability of this action to specific vehicles can best be obtained by either calling Ford’s toll-free line (1-866-436-7332) or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer who can obtain specific information regarding the vehicles from the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database.
