I live in Central California where temperatures hover around 100% on summer afternoons. Occasionally, my wife or I will wait in the car while the other does some quick shopping. Am I risking anything other than range by leaving the system on with the AC running?

Basically no. I’ve never heard of someone noticing it.

Temperature in California is at 100%? My god. In the Midwest we've been at 97 degrees fahrenheit consistently this week. I can't imagine having all of the fahrenheit! ??

Most of California is desert and very hot. But much fewer people live there comparing to the cool coast.

At only 100F, it will be fine to park with A/C running.

At 113F, the cooling fans are now unable to keep the HVB cool while parked or in heavy stop and go traffic and system temps will surpass 135F and then the cabin cooling begins to suffer. If it gets that hot then the car needs to be driven over 45 mph to generate enough air flow to cool down the systems.

Yes. All true in AZ.
Jes sayin. Moving fast is better than sitting
I had no problems last week in death Valley when it was 115 as long as I kept moving

However when getting in the car after has been heated up even with reflectors on all windows and a cover it struggled to get us cool on the way home. We were driving in 115 temperatures for an hour and finally got cool then

Not many people in America are going to see 115 to 125 temperatures but I’ll go to death Valley once a year and so far it’s acceptable

Sorry for my error. I must have been thinking about your humidity.

Ummm, no. Most of California is not desert. If anything, a lot of it is mountainous or coastal. and sometimes both. Only 25% is considered to be desert.

We run a.c. at car cruises to cool off our pets and grand Kids. It's in the high 80s closing in on 90 no shade. Leaving soon

Those temperatures are the planet telling you not to live there or go there.

On the second day I first picked up my MME Premium RWD std battery way back in May '21 we went to NY's Chinatown and a trip that normally would taken about 3 hrs from NJ, we were stuck right on Elizabeth St in the middle of Chinatown for the entire afternoon, 5+ hrs due to policy activity ... all the cross traffic from Williamsburg Bridge to Holland Tunnel was blocked off ... we ended up buying order and eating inside the MME ... outside temperature 96ºF ... inside the cabin a very comfortable 74ºF ... no issues and NO 12v Battery Fault - Service Soon pop ups either !!! I started to get that pop up in 2022 after getting OTA 21P22... until I recently did a recondition charge on the 12v AGM low voltage battery, but that is another story ... another thread altogether.

I have the same opinion for places that get below freezing. The heat here can be unbearable at times but it usually is for just a few hours per day for a couple months per year. The rest of the time is pretty nice.
