The people who steal cars are the bad guys. They’re using the cars in other crimes. They’re committing a serious felony. They’re often armed and just as often rather dangerous. They are the bad folks.

Here in KS I had my $5000 stereo equipment stolen and couple of days later heard it playing in a basement down the street. So I snuck up to a window took pictures of it including identify marks/stickers. I went back tracked down old pictures with same identifying marks. Called the cops who sent lone officer over after 2 weeks.

She said it was not enough. and it was 'just' property crime. No one was threatened etc. She also said that I could easily have been shot or arrested if I was caught in the act. And to not do it. No report nothing. She said she could could not even see any signs of a break-in!

So I filed for insurance and thankfully they paid out a chunk of it. I sold that property a year later.
Lazy Officer! You were not acting as an agent for the police She had ever right to get a warrant and search the property.

Got a call about 2 hours ago from the sheriff's office, they found it!

It was in an apartment complex about 20 minutes away. I had to stick in my roommate's car cause I was getting torn up by mosquitos but when she asked the officer about Ford not having a way to track a vehicle (since that's the official line given) he said something along the lines of "Yeah, that's bullshit."

It's thankfully not too badly damaged and definitely drivable, but since I had no way of turning it on (I don't remember if I ever got a second fob - if I did I cannot find it) we decided it would be best/safest for them to just tow it to their yard.

There was a lot of evidence left in the car so they were able to get fingerprints and whatever else they might need to help catch the theif/thieves, they said they'd let me know.

I'll need to call up my Ford dealership to see about getting a new fob and deactivating the old one, but that should be it.

I really appreciate everyone's help in this and it sounds like the discussion has spurred people to be more mindful of their car's security, so I'm going to call this a net win.
Damn those cops actually doing their job, must be a big disappointment to most of you.

i just added an Airtag to mine.
This thread has aged, but when I saw your comment about adding an AirTag to your MME, it made me smile. AirTags are a great thing and have only gotten better, in time. I travel for work and have them in my luggage, computer bag, on my dog's collar and in my gas pig Jeep, that will be going away when my MME arrives, which should be soon. It's a $29 fix to a real problem. Reading through threads, Ford is not so helpful in finding a stolen MME... Someone can track that car and I do not believe that they cannot.

After reading this post so glad I got the optional RECOVR tracker. I wasnt sure I needed it because I figured a high tech car like this would have this capability Apparently not.

What is an "optional RECOVR tracker"? is that a dealer option and how much was it?

Well that's dumb ... what's the point of locking your FOB in the car? What use case is there for that? Wouldn't it just unlock immediately because the key is present?
When I lived in Colorado, I often locked my fob in the car intentionally when I went mountain biking. I didn’t want to risk losing or breaking it if I crashed (there is a reason I call my bike “Widow Maker”). If you lock the fob in the car from the keypad, it will only unlock from the keypad, so this is moderately secure.

I could also see someone going to the beach, not wanting to leave their key and wallet in a shoe by their towel while they went into the water using a feature like this. Surely locking the fob inside the car is more secure than an unattended shoe. ?‍♂

If you read on you'll see that this comment was in 2 weeks of my ownership, 9 months ago. Someone explained that to me in a subsequent post and I thought it was a great idea. I've even used it myself in this manner since.

If I came across as argumentative, I apologize, that was not my intent.

Also, Scoop just uses PAAK and he leaves the fob hidden in the car inside of a faraday's bag exclusively for towing, so he can give the fob to the tow truck driver. A sad reason, but saved him when he had his second hvbjb failure away from home.

I plan on using an Air Tag when I get my MME next month. Where in the car is the ‘best’ place for it? My first thought is the sunglass holder in the upper center console.
