FYI that is not my picture, I have a ChargePoint. I haven't heard of problems after people bend the Grizzl-E cord like that, but I don't like it. I've seen people mount them upside down too, and I don't like that either. Either way you're putting stress on a cord. To me it's worth the extra 10 minutes to flip the outlet, but if that involves an electrician that's up to you to decide if it's worth the cost.
So it seems like it’s easy to flip the outlet…question then becomes is it safe to use the outlet with ground down. If I mount the box above it then most likely, since there’s no (or limited) risk of something else falling on the plug and hitting the prongs.

Just plug it all the way in. ?

My electrician is asking whether to install the nema 14-50 with the ground up or down.

We plan on using the Ford Mobile Charger at first but may upgrade to a ChargePoint or WallBox in the future.

Any recommendations for up or down?

ground up for the Ford mobile charger.....

but do NOT just hang the charger from the outlet! install the bracket cradle that holds the charger, and install it slight up and to one side to provide a S shape to the cable as a strain relief. this will also help prevent the pigtail from disconnecting from the charger while under load.

Yeah, ground-up seems to be the preferred option for most EVSEs just because of the plug orientation. Otherwise you end up with a looped contortion of the cord.

Unless, it seems, you have a Grizzl-e. Their ground is down.
