Good morning all.
I took my car to the dealership twice for a headlamp fix. They told me they had to update some modules.
Away, I normally get 288-290 miles at 90%. This morning it was 250. Trying to figure out why?
I normally get 4.4-4.8mi/kWh.
Per my log
But I do see 3.1-3.9 during most drives.
I’m headed out of town today, I’m a little nervous.

The GUESS-O-METER is not accurate. It is impacted by your driving history. Some updates, either OTA or at a dealer, reset that history. Temperature impacts the range, as does the most recent trips you've made.

Of course your 4.4 - 4.8 efficiency is not highway driving at 70+mph. And the log may or may not be accurate.

On the highway, traveling at 70+mph, you should expect around 3.0. You can see your efficiency during the drive. Multiply that times the battery size to know your relevant range.

Mine is currently showing 256 at 90%, i.e. 284 at 100%. I recently did some local driving and was getting above my normal efficiency. On the highway, I plan trips at 2.8 in the summer, 2.2 in the winter.

91 x 3 = 273. On a trip, first leg is 80 - 90% (dropping to 10-20% before filling). Each additional leg is more like 60-70%, i.e. charge to 80 and fill at 10-20%, so more like 191 miles between charges.

I think the recent batch of OTA's did something. I was consistently seeing ~300 on the GOM at 90% charge and then all of a sudden it is now ~260.

Also i reset and monitor "Trip 1" and i average around 3.5 mi/kwh per ~300 miles

Since you have RDW ER and I have AWD ER, I think you should expect about 10% better than I get.

I take my %, subtract 10 and multiply by 3 for a ballpark guess.

90%- 10 = 80 x 3 = 240 BOTEC miles (Back Of The Envelope Calculation) of range.

As long as the BOTEC is higher than the distance to the next charge, I don't need to add much PuckerFactor (tm) correction.

This works pretty well for the 91kWh battery - I haven't figured it for smaller batteries. It's also based on my generally getting just north of 3 mi/kwh. I'm sure that'll change this winter.

Congratulations on being an energy conservation conscious EV'r like me.

My GOM reading was reduced by 25% from the time I dropped the car at the dealer for updates to when I picked it up.

This happens because the cars average mi./kWh value gets reset from your driving history to the EPA rating of 3.1 mi/kWh.

After 300 miles, I am still averaging 1.5 real miles for every GOM mile, so I estimate that will return to 1:1 like it was before the Recall update around 500 miles post update.

Bottom line, your real world range is the same now as it was before, hope that helps.

Your Driving History was reset during the OTA. Mine did the same. You can do this manually at any time in the General Settings - resetting your driving history will remove all data related to driving style, temperature, and so on that affect your displayed range.

Your TRUE range remains unchanged. Drive the car for a few days and you'll see it return to normal.

It's inaccurate, I measure my actuals via obd, don't trust the screen.

But will navigation catch the error or will it make me charge before I really need to? I’m heading out for a trip☹

I made it just fine to MD. Stopped at EA station in Emporia. Met 2 I5s and a grabber blue MME. By the time we used the bathroom and had a whopper, it was done charging. Used BC for most of the trip, really relaxing drive.

I see your trip already happened, but yes it will adjust. I use ABRP for long trips with charging stops anyway, not the built in navigation.

Do any experts here know what the efficiency resets to if you reset the history on the GOM? I can only offer what my car's efficiency was when the ODO read 13 miles at the dealership:
318 miles @ 100%, 91kWh battery, gives ~3.5mi/kWh

So here is my contribution for default GOM efficiency when reset:
Premium ER RWD: 3.5mi/kWh

Also depends on if you have intelligent range. I get messages saying range adjusted due to set destination, or outdoor temperature. It's been much more accurate since they enabled that feature.

Not sure if its still just for EAP (Early Access Program) members or is rolling out to everyone.

Still EAP only, as far as I know.
