I have noticed some other people asking about the windshield but I haven’t seen anything too crazy yet. For myself, I noticed small, almost microscopic chips all over the windshield within 2 weeks of owning it. They’re only noticeable in certain lighting but it’s damage I’ve only seen on windshields that are a few years old. Well, today something very unexpected happened. I hit a bump in the road and somehow my windshield cracked around where the dash cam. I’m sick about it, but also disappointed because this seems like the weakest glass in the automotive world. I love this MME and I’ve been a ford guy for years, but some of these things are just disappointing and frustrating. I literally changed my lifestyle so I could afford this vehicle because it’s the most attainable dream car I could get, but I feel like karma is really kicking me sometimes with it.

That looks too perfect to be coincidental. I've had 3 MMEs and no windshield issues. Could it be the dashcam adhesive causing stress/temperature fluctuations or something stuck in between?

it definitely has something to do with the camera. My point is, why does this glass seem so weak? I’ve never had these two issues with other cars.

The weight of the camera combined with the shock load of the bump and the likely presence of a chip or microcrack in that location likely caused the failure.

when the camera was mounted, how hard was the adhesive pressed against the glass? Could it have been pressed firmly enough to stress the glass?

I have exactly the same issue with my windshield (the huge numbers of tiny flecks or scratches that are only visible when driving into the sun) My 2022 premium was delivered in July. I cannot find the physical "scratches" in the windshield visually. Perhaps there could be a fault in the bonding process in the manufacturing of the multi-layer windshield?

I also have a 22 Premium that was delivered in early August.

I don't think the camera had anything to do with it although the crack is unusual. Heat cracks do not follow straight lines. A stone would normally leave some dust/crushing at point of impact or it was a blunt instrument. Front windshield is laminated glass not tempered to stop penetration.
Former Glass shop owner but not Auto glass.

i do have to agree with your thought on the glass being junk in the car. My Mach E is one week shy of being a year old and I’m on my third windshield. Two have completed shattered on their own. Ford denied my claim for stress cracking and that pissed me off. Almost $3,000 in windshields already.

oof, that sucks. Windshields aren't designed to be strong on the inside. I've slapped one with my palm and shattered it. Their rounded shape makes them strong outside but weak inside. The situation could have been the perfect storm to cause that thing to slam into it quite harder than you'd expect. Perfect situation of resonance at work - both the windshield's flex post bump as well as the adhesives resonance as a function of the camera's mass and it could have been a perfect whiplash event that sent that thing into the glass at a corner of the device and that was enough inertia concentrated into a smaller area on the weak side of the glass and well, you have that.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Mach-E window concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.
