@generaltso: I went back and looked at the IRS page; I clicked on the link for EVs purchased in 2022 and before and it only shows MY21 and MY22 MMEs. I guess maybe IRS didn't figure on any MY23s being delivered in 2022 lol.

So does this mean I’m screwed since I added a measly $400 in options?
Remove the $400 options and you are good.

My base Premium MME is $25 under the max.

F150 is **OBJECTIVELY** a truck. It's not up for a sedan/SUV debate.
Whew - my '22 Lariat Lightning made the tax credit !
At least I will get a nice refund for taxes already paid (W4) in 2023 when I file...

Nope, my base Premium MME RWD with standard range battery is $56,275 MSRP and no options.

Looking like Select is the only trim that qualifies.

Now I wonder how many MME will be refused in 2023 because of this IRS ruling.
Are you counting paint upgrade, floor mats? Mine is like yours (as you described it) and is $54,975.

@RickMachE pointed out that the price tag is BEFORE destination & delivery charges ($1300).

So yes, my Premium MME is like yours at $54975 - just $25 shy of the max amount!

NOT A TAX PRO HERE... But... I say claim it anyways and let them argue it if it comes down in an audit. Hopefully they don't require a VIN or some sort of automated disqualifier. The sticker says it's a "Small SUV" in terms of EPA rating so that could be your argument. Talk to a tax PRO. The below is from my 2023 sticker.

Ford Mustang Mach-E 2023 Mach-E priced over $55K & delivered in 2023 will not qualify for tax credit! Latest IRS ruling says Mach-E is a CAR - not SUV ! 1672360372818

You do have to submit your VIN on the applicable form, so they don’t even need a person to audit your file, their software will flag it.

This is fascinating. It’s a bit of an endless cycle going from one definition to another. I don’t quite understand how the 3 row model y made it as an suv considering the frame and body is the same and it has less cargo space than a 2 row.
It really is interesting. There must be some type of rubric.
We know AWD matters because of the ID4.
Seating must matter somewhere because of the model Y, but what does the ID 4 Pro have that the Model Y doesn't?

I can only imagine worse approach/departure angles?

Maybe I'll go check the Tesla boards.

If Hyundai/Kia could qualify, it would be interesting to see how their vehicles would fit.

The Model Y only qualifies because of the 3rd row of seats, which automatically turns it into a "truck" regardless of ground clearance.

This specific part of the designation allows for 3 or more rows that can fold flat to help allow for truck (non car) designation. I think these rules are old, so they were to do with passenger vans.

You have to supply the make, model, price, and VIN. Intentionally trying to claim a tax credit that you know you don’t qualify for is tax fraud. It’s hard to claim you didn’t know when the IRS provides a clear list.
