It my not be SUV, but it’s definitely a CUV crossover. Im glad i didnt order the GT i wanted to trade in my Premium at those larger buy back prices. Lots of changes have happened in the last few months. Ill wait and see whats out there in 3-5 years.

I imagine dealers that ponied up for Model E Elite certification can't be too happy about this either. Have they paid $1M for the privilege of acquiring product that will likely be much harder to move, much less generate margins? I'm guessing the mother ship is already hearing from them as well.

It's unfortunate how ambiguous vehicle classifications have become. If there were a Maverick Lightning, I'm guessing it would qualify as a truck, yet its structure is unibody.

It seems the time has come for U.S. buyers to pay the piper for being image conscious on what our vehicles are classified as. Wagons, hatchbacks, and vans became uncool, eventually giving rise to smooth riding car-based crossovers. The lines quickly blurred between this new breed and traditional body-on-frame SUVs because to most observers, they look similar on the surface.

The blurry SUV term has made its way to tax law and is already causing confusion, but this time there are dollars at stake instead of just personal insecurities.

On the upside, it's still a great car. Hopefully folks buying at the higher bottom line price will recover some of it at resale if the rest of the market follows.

I’m surprised how many people were relying on tax credit? Is that the only reason you were gonna buy this car? Isn’t the credit only gonna be 3750?

So I have skinned through the thread and I am now looking at the other manufacturers.

At first looking at Tesla I thought it was based on seat count. The model y needs to be 7 seats to be an suv. The 5 seater is a car.

That all goes out the window looking at the id4 from vw. The pro s in a red is a car. The AWD pro s is an suv.

I don't understand where these numbers are coming from
Also, Tesla currently doesn't offer a 7 seater performance.

Going to check with my dealer about (not likely)adjusting the options off my in transit order, but looks like with $310 in options (floor mats and wheel locks) my order is $286 over the 2023 IRS limit and is due to arrive January 4th to 10th. Anybody want a car overpriced by $7216?

The Model Y only qualifies because of the 3rd row of seats, which automatically turns it into a "truck" regardless of ground clearance.
Which is a joke if you’ve ever seen a model Y with three rows, it would be like putting a row in the MME trunk

No, but a +$6000 price increase by Ford (22 MY to 23 MY)and loss of $3750 to $7500 in tax credits are $9750 to $13,750 in good reasons not to buy this car.

It looks like Select and a few Premium (RWD, Short Range) would still qualify, below the $55k limit. I think it's reasonable to expect price cuts on higher trims, but not immediately - Ford will do better to just wait a few months and see how the market develops.

Perhaps Ford would make an early adjustment for SallyPat (above) - cut the MSRP by $1,300 and qualify the car for the tax credit. The government might not like that, and Ford might or might not care.
OK so, is it base msrp or including all options msrp?

Tesla hasn’t had credits for years
Tesla didn't have competition, and is manufacturing for a much cheaper cost now because of their head start.

2023's have now jumped 7-8k in price and lost 7500 in tax credits. That's a 15k+ (sales tax impact too) that has now put the Mustang far outside of the competition.

I could be entirely wrong, but I strongly feel like the MME is going to become unprofitable and unsellable and Ford will kill it off.

I’m surprised how many people were relying on tax credit? Is that the only reason you were gonna buy this car? Isn’t the credit only gonna be 3750?
It's not just the tax credit. As above...you'd be okay paying 16-17k more for your car (plus higher current rates and no X Plan option)?

I'm sorry but that would be just insanity in my mind.

Interesting. What is to keep a manufacturer from selling the car for $20k and charging $40k for D&D? Sounds like something Musk would do. :)
Great idea!

I think there are a lot of people, myself included, who are only able and willing to afford the vehicle because of the incentives. The 55k price limit is probably about right for many of us. My issue is I’m one of the ones that converted a 22 select order (38k after incentive) to a 23 premium (42k after incentives). The loss of the $7500 is tough to swallow and puts my premium up at 50k after incentives. We may be the minority on these forums but there are a lot of people who want to get into EV’s but the incentives are the only thing allowing us to sniff them.

Agreed!

Escape PHEV weighs less, has less cubic feet of storage, etc...

MME should be classified as "mini or small SUV / CUV"....

SUV was always a body shape and involved greater ground clearance, it has nothing to do with weight. The MME should never have been classified as a SUV.
