For those waiting on orders, what does the Model Y price drop to $52,990 make you think?

It makes me think a few things:

- Management is incompetent
- Current owners are going to be pissed
- Panic move to improve declining demand and use up production surplus

I'm a value shopper. If I were buying an EV today then I'd grit my teeth and try to suppress everything I think about Elon Musk......and buy a Model Y LR (or maybe a Model 3 P). With the tax credit, this value is unmatched in the market, like by a long shot.

I was intrigued so looked at their website. If I spec out a model y (5 seater) to match what I have ordered it does come out about 4k cheaper but it is not enough to make me buy a MY. There are only 2 things about Teslas that I personally wish Ford had...the heat pump (that I know only really helps in moderate temps vs extreme temps) and the supercharger network. I don't really travel so I am not as concerned over charging network because that is an ever changing infrastructure.

Tesla has shown that they play with their pricing more than most manufacturers so this pricing will most likely change a few times again.

Does your MME order qualify for the fed tax credit?

Unlikely and something theriddler forgot about (unless they don't qualify for other reasons). The only MMEs that qualify are the Select or SR Premium. The direct comparison to a Model Y LR is the ER AWD Premium - which is now $53k ($45.5 after credit) vs. $66k.

I have 2022 price protection, but I am still thinking this is a game changer.
Same here - '22 PCO and $7500 tax credit on my incoming '23 MME Premium SR base.

Net cost after all credits, rebates, and PCO will be $39K before TTL.

Hard to beat that deal - even for Tesla Model 3 RWD (same comparison to my RWD MME).

Had the PCO not been available nor the tax credit, I would have passed and kept my Lightning which I will be selling as soon as the MME arrives.

No...but I did not order it assuming it would. The Tesla spec'd out to be equivalent to what I ordered would not either though as it would go over the $55K limit. In looking at the Tesla pricing I know I would not be satisfied with the vehicle if I had to limit it to under $55K based on their pricing. So for me I spec'd out and ordered the Mach-E for what I wanted (that was before the price limits were in place) and in comparing the MY I spec'd it out for what I wanted as well to see where it fell.

I did my comparison based on what I wanted and not what version of the MME could qualify. The comparison was just for my scenario and not meant as a referendum on what anyone else would want to choose. That is why I referenced things I personally liked about Tesla vs MME. Everyone's decision matrix will be different.

Fair point, bad assumption on my part. For the next 3 months, though, the focus is going to be on the eligible Teslas. I can totally see Tesla adding a 7 seater option for the Performance MY, though, which would make it eligible as well.

At the end of the day it still looks like a Tesla, which has recently overtaken Camry in sales, so, might as well be another Camry on the road. I can't get over the sameness. Gonna be a pass for me.

One of the reasons I went with the MME. Here in Kentucky there just are not many on the road. I see Teslas everywhere (3, Y, X, S) but hardly ever an MME. This morning I saw my first in about 3 weeks. In total since the '21s started deliverying I have seen less than 20 MMEs.

For this price I am going to swing by Ford this afternoon to get a price on my Select, honestly if they offer more than $40k, its tempting to go get a Y long range. The extra 100 miles of range is the factor, in every other way I would choose the Mach-E, but that much range, wow.

I've tested a Model Y Performance and it's definitely a fast car. But I've said this before, they just feel like soul-less driving appliances.

I think that's only in a straight line. I don't think I've ever seen anything really positive on anything that isn't straight, but folks can correct me if I'm off here.

Just too many for my taste and don't like the look neither.

That is definitely the biggest con for me and I'll genuinely be sad if I end up selling the MME and driving by one. Unfortunately it's happy wife happy life for me... and I get a faster car and hopefully better resale for an EV truck down the road... Definitely first world problems.
