It comes down to how well the system works in the real world. BC needs the highway mapped, Tesla doesn't and therefore works in more places. I have both systems, and Tesla's systems just works better. The car is more centered, and maintain speeds in curves, does not disengage as often. BC is good, but Tesla works better. I don't have lane change, so I can't comment on that. But I would never use lane change anyways. Easier for me to check my mirrors are change lane myself. BC does have hands free, whereas tesla does not (for now, Elon has mention that they will start using the interior camera soon for handsfree AP). But hands free can easily be "bypass" on tesla. Either way, you still need to pay attention with any of these systems.

My my use (only on divided Freeways) both systems work well, and I'm happy with both.
But does your opinion change if some of these things are improved with BC1.2? For example, people with experience in both versions of BC are claiming that lane centering is improved in 1.2. As far as disengagement, my experience is that the most common disengagement (by a long shot) is for HF to disengage with a message telling you to touch the steering wheel, but with hands-on BC still active. So it basically reverts to Autopilot-like behavior where you get nagged if you don't touch the steering wheel every so-many seconds.

Everyone has their own opinion, but the hands-free nature of BC is really valuable to me. I also have Kia's system, which is better at lane-centering but nags me to touch the wheel every several seconds and it feels primitive compared to HF BC.

Edit: Just want to mention that it's also possible that my region has more mapped highways. Pretty much every divided highway I use here in New England seems to be mapped. I can understand BC being a frustrating experience for someone in a region with less mapping.

Full disclosure, I "hack the tesla system" to get hands free and avoid the nag. So yes, the BC is better in that aspect. But I also trust myself to pay attention to the road because I care about my life. Can't say that about every driver, but for me personally, both systems are good, I'm happy with both.

Having owned the MME for a year now, my take on OTA, any OTA is that it comes when it comes. There's no rhyme or reason why some get them and others don't. Best to not expect any OTA, and be happily surprise if you get an update. Otherwise you'll just be disappointed.

Just note - BlueCruise Hands Free needs the highway mapped. BlueCruise with hands on works on any road where it detects lane markings. CR actually didn't even evaluate the hands off mode of any of the vehicles.

There has also been a lot of discussion about the cabin monitoring camera in Teslas. Most people don't think it is actually adequate for true driver monitoring. The location of the camera and the lack of true infrared limits its ability.

Based solely on how the system performed, looks like they rated both BC and AP at 9. Which is pretty much how I feel, they're pretty similar in function and capacity. I don;t have FSD or enhance AP or BC 1.2 so I can't comment on lane change and such.

As far is Hands free from Tesla, We'll see if it gets here, but I believe it will. Elon has tweeted that it's coming. And usually he keeps his word, it may takes a while but it usually will come. As far as how well the monitoring will work is another story. But for me, I know I pay attention to the road regardless, so I don't really care about monitoring.

I wouldn't say Elon is known for keeping his word. What happened to that autonomous coast to coast trip or the 1 million robotaxis?

Going back to the cabin camera, Elon said it was put in there so you can monitor your car is being used as a robotaxi, not for driver monitoring. ?

"It’s there for when we start competing with Uber/Lyft & people allow their car to earn money for them as part of the Tesla shared autonomy fleet. In case someone messes up your car, you can check the video." - Elon Musk

The HDA2 system isn't even hands-free, and Hyundai says it only works on mapped highways. This is obviously somewhat subjective, but I think it's more comparable to the Ford Co-Pilot 360 system and the one that I drove ping-ponged a lot.
i have ioniq 5. it's lane centering not the ping pong ford 360. ford is hand free but i find myself playing hot potato with the steering wheel so i just keep my hands on the wheel.

I said he usually keeps his word.....eventually. He promised Track mode for the Model Y, and it finally came out 2 years later.

In the linked article, the Semi is now out. FSD is improving with each update, still wouldn't trust or use it in its current state, but definitely improvement with each release. Hardware 4.0 will be release soon. I would never pay for a promise function. I pay for what's current, and if it something gets released in the future, then I see it as a bonus.

Cybertruck is ugly, and not my cup of Tea, but some peole like it. They're installing the equipment for the Cybertruck (9ton gigapress) in Texas now, so progress is happening. I think the cybertruck will be a sales failure overall, but who knows. People buy strange things.

With the most recent update, you can now use the interior camera. Either way, I'm not holding my breath. In the current state, I'm fine hacking the car to get hands free. Not ideal, but easy work around.

Its strange how some people get the ping pong affect with BC while others don't. I wonder if its due to camera calibration, or the roads that they're on. I don't get a lot of ping pong, BC is pretty centered for me.

Same, I've only had ping-ponging once on a road under construction with temporary lanes.

ping pong is with ford 360 (lane keep). BC (lane center)doesn't ping pong.

There's a difference between ford 360 lane keep assist vs. BC with hands on the wheel? I always assume that they were the same. Maybe BC even with hands on the wheel is where the road is mapped. Where as Lane Keep is solely camera. That would explain the ping ponging. The camera is not enough to keep the car centered.

yeah. bc needs mapped highways that are not curved to be hands free but i find it goes off too often and i just keep my hands on anyway. the hyundai system is not handsfree but doesn't need mapping.

The Hyundai system sounds like Tesla AP.
