The problem with electric trucks is that they suck at being a truck. While my truck will pull more than a lightning, if we had the same box trailer / RV style payload, I can get 3x the range and 'recharge' in 1/15th of the time. Those factors really screw up the equation for those who pull a large trailer a few times per year. That option for the most part is gone. Then you've got a truck you can't pull anything of size/mass any distance.

I let my lightning reservation go as I've got the same truck for the most part, except it's gas. The lightings 1 big fast-to-market point was it's based largely on the ICE platform. The E-SUV is the market ford should have focused on, as should other players. Going for pickups is a missed mark IMO. Ford looked at the F series sales numbers and went for it failing to understand that most of the truck owners own the truck for being able to do truck things.

Additionally, I live on 5 acres of property, have many trailers and I'm always hauling around server equipment, racks, yard equipment etc. Right now I have to go home, get the Audi, with a tow hitch, go back to work with a trailer. I'm over it. I miss having a truck.
Same boat as you. Look into the powerboost F150. Though I'd wait until they make a PHEV version. The powerboost is a great truck, I might not even own the MME if it was PHEV.

This is a good compare/contrast video of the production vs concept versions.

Well at release the lightning and my truck were less than $10k apart. However the empty range is less than half of my truck, and it's still got all of the large power output capabilities. I can charge the MME at ~21MPG-E at 30 amps from my truck with its onboard generator that puts out 7.5x kW at ~1 gal/h

I think that most people who own EVs forget that there's a massive portion of America that is rural and trucks are almost required. Additionally, range is important for a lot of people. We aren't all city dwellers with offices within walking distance. My stops yesterday added 1 hour to an already 2.5 hour drive, each way. I value my time and don't want to waste it searching for a charger and then waiting an additional 45 minutes. As long as it's under 100k and has the range and architecture advertised, I'm all in.
That's why I don't think the winter areas will move to EV that quickly, until solid state batteries make range much longer. The "free" heat is too useful and waiting around to charge outside while it's below freezing isn't a great concept. Still seems there is potential for a PHEV or range extender there, which Dodge had alluded to a bit.

Big truck. Can it tow? Tow how far? 90 mile tow range isnt going to cut it.
Yeah pass. If it can’t tow 3600 lbs 150 miles round trip it’s pretty useless for a truck.

I'm waiting for someone to come out with a range extender full size pickup.

Very cool but who is going to be the first to make an equivalent SUV? I think Rivian is the closest but probably smaller than a RAM with a SUV body would be. The Lightening could be a BEV Expedition without much effort I think. Armchair car designer here. ?
I’ve been predicting a BEV navigator next (I’m bad at predictions). Ford makes a crapload of money on Navigator. Imagine how much they could take in on a BEV Navigayor? Probably enough to bump up the dividend by a few cents ?

Dunno, those fools made the ER XLT lightning over 80k - no tax credit.

I absolutely hate this phase we're in, where literally 95% of all EV's hitting the market are priced as luxury vehicle levels from just a couple years ago.

I see announcements like this and I just ignore it as I know it's something that I, and most people around me, can't reasonably afford, and my wife and I earn more income than most of them.

It's frustrating, but it's economics. Maybe it's a good thing considering our charging infrastructure is lagging behind demand already. I don't know.
The batteries are just so expensive still. Too expensive to offer any decent range at an affordable price.

Even more so for something like a truck.
