This is what the manual of my 2021 MME says:

”If you drive off-center within the lane, the system sets and maintains that preferred lane position. The system provides continuous assistance steering torque input toward the preferred position.”

Has anyone ever had any success in making this work? It certainly doesn’t work in my car. There is no mention of learning lane centering in the 2023 manual, has the feature been removed in some Power Up update?

Nope, mine continually rides on the passenger side line area. I would personally line up the driver fender to hood bump as my center because I curve left. i assume someone in legal made them remove the verbage so someone like yourself doesn't come back with "it's in the manual".

The joys of current software based cars and 'live docs' for manuals.

BlueCruise 1.2 will better center it in the lane. Look for it later this year as an update.

Has anyone actually followed behind an MME when lane centering is in use and verified that it has a bias towards the right side? With us sitting on the left of the car, we have a distorted view and it is hard to determine by how much the car is favoring the right side of the lane.

What I noticed is that most highway passenger vehicles in my area tend to be on the left of *their* lane. Probably due to the "sitting on the left" bias that you mentioned.

So, when the MME chooses to be a little to the right, or even dead center, it will feel like you are super close to the car on your right.

I think one of the promises of v1.2 was to use the side radar to see that something is beside your vehicle and move over to give a little more space.

Yes. That feature worked quite well when my car was delivered in Feb 2021. Unfortunately it was removed via OTA when the Blue Cruise package was released for my car in April of 2022. I am not sure if the software engineers intended to remove that feature or if it was an oversight. I suppose it is possible the two features are not compatible with each other but that seems weird since they function under different circumstances.

This is what I would like to see as well. I do believe that most of us drive biased to the left unconsciously.

At first it felt like it was too far right. I learned that if I "fought it", it would continuously try to pull to the right. If I just left it alone, it would find a more true "center".

Is there news on 1.2 coming to 2021/2022 MMEs? I know we're all hopeful that Ford will do it for the subscription renewals.

I'm convinced that it really does drive off-center to the right (I mean, you can see the distance to the right lane marker in the side view mirror).

But the thing is, it really doesn't matter if it's real or if it's just in your head. Either way, the experience is so uncomfortable that it defeats the purpose of the whole feature. I have to either fight it or turn it off when in traffic and/or passing cars. It's just bad.

Has nothing to do with renewals.

My car and I constantly disagree over the best spot in the lane. I pretty much let her have her way like I do with most of the women in my life.

What I do is fight it until there the lane to the right is vacant. Then I let go of the wheel and let it sneak towards the right side of the lane. I call this "hunting for the white stripes". When it finds what it's looking for my car will usually migrate back towards the true center of the lane (or pretty close at least). I usually have to do this every time BCHF engages.

Hope this helps.

When I got my car in November '21 one of the first things I did was to disable lane centering because it was really annoying in my previous Mazda CX-5. I decided to give lane centering a chance just lately and apparently only after the learning feature was removed from my MME. Oh well...

The main reason why I don't like literal lane centering is that here in Finland most people use studded winter tires and the center of the lane is always more or less rutted. Driving in the tire grooves increases tire noise and tire wear. I like to keep right on the right lane and left on the left lane to avoid grooves and to maximize my distance from vehicles on the other lane.
