Check your 12V battery.

Well, it looks like my SVS was a False Alarm. After sitting for a day after getting the SVS, the car started and drove fine. I stress-tested it on the highway and completed an L2 charge session without faults. So everything is fine now.?. ? I don't have a scanner, but I will get one from Amazon. Man, I was hoping the car was going in for surgery; just to get it over with.So I received a SVS immediately upon starting the car this morning under 40 degrees in CT. A Ford Pass message also says POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION/REDUCED POWER.
Is it possible that I have a false SVS or for some other non HVBJB reason? I left the car at home as I had to get on a commuter train so I did not do a restart or any investigation. I backed in the driveway and will have to deal with it tonight/tomorrow. What is odd is that i have done nothing remarkable with the car recently; no DCFC, no spirited driving and its winter in Connecticut. I WAS L2 charging on my Charpoint charger and I DID get a charge fault error overnight 55% SOC into my charge session. The car stopped charging and Ford Pass sent an error message sometime last night that I had a charge error/replug in (which i did not replug in).
Should I assume the car needs to get checked out and start the process with the dealer (who is familiar with HVBJV) or wait and see if SVS goes away tonight and hope for the best?
- Car has 8,000 miles
- Car was built a few weeks prior to the major recall announcement so it has the old part
- Car errored while on L2 home charging overnight and stopped at 55% SOC
- Car has been driven during the winter unremarkably (no WOT, no super long drives, no DCFC)
Thanks!
Was this the first time you got an SVS without HVBJB failure?I just get experienced the exact same issue - faulted while charging and then SVS. I drove it and later when I started it the message was gone. Drove home and plugged in, normal charge session. I connected my ODB scanner after the fault cleared, there were several codes related to power faults, all in archive status. I’m guessing if I bring to dealer in this state they won’t be able to do much. Keep driving until it faults again? Until SSN/turtle?
Just had the same thing happen to use. SVS this morning when my wife started it up and a charging fault last night. At work she was able to charge just find and when she started it ups after work the SVS went away. Going to check for codes when I get home tonight.Well, it looks like my SVS was a False Alarm. you don't have a contactor-related issue if the code disappears on its own, I believe.I just get experienced the exact same issue - faulted while charging and then SVS. Update, no codes showing on my ODB2 reader. Must have been a flukeJust had the same thing happen to use. SVS this morning when my wife started it up and a charging fault last night. As I mentioned earlier in this long thread, I got the SVS notice right after the latest software update and apparently that's happened to a lot of other MME owners. We took it to our dealer the next day and he confirmed that there was no issue with the MME.Update, no codes showing on my ODB2 reader. Must have been a fluke
Just my 2 cents… I think you are seeing the error because an update was installed at night during winter when your 12v battery was cold. The OTA runs the cooling pump at full go when installing the update which puts a big strain on your 12V battery and causes it to get low enough that you are seeing random failures. All of which will disappear as soon as you charge/turn the car on which recharges the 12v battery. I have seen any number of service vehicle errors after each of the last updates due to my 12V battery being low.As I mentioned earlier in this long thread, I got the SVS notice right after the latest software update and apparently that's happened to a lot of other MME owners. That's feasible except that our garage temp was in the low 60's that night and it was plugged in.Just my 2 cents… I think you are seeing the error because an update was installed at night during winter when your 12v battery was cold. We recently sold our Mach E so I can’t confirm the exact error text but I would see several errors saying lost communication with module x which tells me the 12v battery was the issue.
That could have been a lot worse, sounds like you did everything right so far.I just got the call today from local ford dealership that the cause of my car not starting is the HVBJB. We came to visit family about 4 hours away in the Central Valley Ca for the weekend. Monday we were preparing to head back home so we went to the EA here in town to charge before heading out that evening. Got there and plugged in and kept receiving the charging fault error. We thought it was the charger so we tried again and same error message. Tried to move to another stall and car wouldn’t start, service vehicle soon with red exclamation popped up on the screen.
We decided to call for tow truck, which arrived 30 min later. I’m so glad I printed out the towing instructions and diagram because the guy that showed up in tow truck had never towed one of these cars before. He seemed kinda offended at first that I would show him how it needs to be done but after looking under the car, he was able to see where to tow from. Car was towed to local ford dealership where we’ve been waiting to see what the problem was. I was told today that they placed an emergency order for the part and we might get the car back Friday or Monday. What are the chances of this happening again?
My car is a 2021 FE with about 23,200 miles.
Thanks! Yes, it could have. I’m just glad we didn’t get stranded up in the grapevine. When i spoke to the advisor from the dealership they told me they had repaired 3 other cars with the same issue. That could have been a lot worse, sounds like you did everything right so far.
Once you have the new part, it seems quite rare to have it fail again. We've only seen around 3 or so fail in the board with the new part for what it's worth.
Service Vehicle Soon on the Grapevine is not fun. Thanks! Yes, it could have. I’m just glad we didn’t get stranded up in the grapevine. When i spoke to the advisor from the dealership they told me they had repaired 3 other cars with the same issue.
