The only thing missing is the module that control the self parking feature. The sensors are active and can be used by other systems without issue. It's the parking computer that is missing. (The module that would calculate the movement and shows the UI in sync, then relays that data to the other modules to perform it.) Hence why blind spot detection still works just fine ect.
That’s good to know that other systems can use those sensors. I assume where they do not register objects as you’re backing out that they were just not active.

I know mine sees objects just fine when backing up and I don't have active park so not sure what you're experiencing here. You might have a feature turned off in vehicle settings.

No this is a limitation of the 22s that don’t have park assist. My 2021 had sensors active all around. Front, Back, and sides. The 22 only has them active on the front and back.

Do you have 360 camera addon, I think that's a thing on GTs? I feel like the sensors are more tied to that... no one has mentioned losing active park assist took away a bunch of the sensors that assist with normal parking. Everyone said it just removes the actual "active" park assist feature, where the car parks itself and is near useless.

I do have the 360 camera. The side sensors are there, they are just not active. If you look at this YouTube video you see those orange lines that show up on the side of the car? I don’t get those. I just get them on the front and back.

Interesting, once in a while I get the orange line but I don't have those dotted yellow lines.

My husband has a 2021 with everything active, I have a 2022 with the limited sensors. He gets the orange lines on the sides, I dont. Unless there's something else I'm missing the lack of park assist hardware is the reason for that. The actual sensors on the bumpers are the same.

Yes, like others have said, this is a park assist thing and not a lack of sensors. They are there and fully functional. Its park assists software that show those lines. Park assist is using the 360 camera for line detection and shows that in the user interface and not any type of sensor.

The sensors may be “functional” but if the data isn’t being displayed on the screen or audibly over the speakers (which it isn’t) then are they really functional?

If someone is about to get hit by a train and I yell inside my head, did the person hear me?

@AlanJ @Ghost Ryder @Neil4Real @Just Lurking Here is my husbands red 2021 Premium J2 vs my 2022 GT J2. Same number of physical sensors. My husbands car shows orange and red lines on the sides of the car, like in the pic below. If you look at the attached video my car does not display or audibly alert for those side sensors. We can debate whether those sensors are powered on or not, but in the end they are not functioning as parking sensors.

Wow, that's a total bummer! I've never seen anyone report this as everyone has said you just lose the feature where the car parks itself, I didn't know you actually lose some items, that's a bummer. I use it all the time when parking in my garage, especially now with the rain and I might not be able to see cleanly out of my side mirror, the car let's me know if I'm too close.

Hopefully @Mach-E VLOG can check their demo car to confirm this isn't just a bug with your car? Since @Ghost Ryder appears to be getting the orange lines that show it is working, it would be interesting to get confirmation from others on how their cars are functioning.

Correct, the side sensors are present but not functional. Therefore you won't see the orange lines on the sides without Park Assist. Essentially the side sensors aren't hooked up to the ultrasonic board because they couldn't get the version that supports side sensors due to shortages.

Thank you. That is what I’ve been trying to explain to everyone. Whatever part was removed during the part shortage impacts those side sensors, which makes sense why park assist wouldn’t work.

I would be curious if the side sensors are active on 2023s, even though they don’t have park assist. @Mach-E VLOG can you see if you get the lines on the side of the car when backing up?

@Ghost Ryder does your 22 not have the park assist kit? I know some early 2022s still had park assist. I would be curious if there are 22s without park assist that are getting those side warning lines.

Why was a point deducted at 43:50 for touching the lane marker? BC was running in hands-on mode then. Since we are scoring BC1.2 in hands-free mode, I demand Kyle add the 1 point back !!

Bantering aside, I do wonder:
1) On curves, does the car slow down to roughly the same speed every time? For example, when entering the same curve at 75mph vs. 55mph, would it slow down to ~46mph every single time? Or if it can't slow down fast enough (e.g., from 75mph), would BC figure that out ahead of time and disengage?
2) In hands-free mode, does BC allow itself to touch a lane marker if it determines it is safe to do so? I mean, would it slow down the car or disengage BC if there were another car very close to the lane marker it was about to touch?
