IRVING, Texas (Mar. 16, 2023) – Today 7‑Eleven, Inc. announced 7Charge, its new, proprietary EV charging network and app that delivers a convenient and reliable fast-charging experience at select 7‑Eleven® stores in the U.S., and coming soon to Canada. 7‑Eleven intends to build one of the largest and most compatible electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging networks of any retailer in North America with the launch of 7Charge, which is already delivering fast-charging services to customers in several locations in Florida, Texas, Colorado, and California.

The 7Charge network will offer EV drivers 7‑Eleven’s trademark convenience and accessibility. 7Charge sites allow customers to charge any EV make and model compatible with common CHAdeMO or Combined Charging System (CCS) plug types*, and the 7Charge app offers a new level of convenience and coordination to customers looking for a seamless charging and payment experience. The 7Charge app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, or by visiting 7‑Eleven.com/7charge.

“For over 95 years, 7‑Eleven has innovated to meet our customers’ needs – delivering convenience where, when and how they want it,” said Joe DePinto, President and Chief Executive Officer at 7‑Eleven. “Now, we are innovating once again to meet our customers' where they are by expanding our business to provide EV drivers convenience of the future...today.”

The 7Charge network will deliver on the growing consumer need for EV charging infrastructure. By expanding the 7Charge network, while continuing to utilize third-party fast-charging network options, 7‑Eleven will have the ability to grow its network to match consumer demand and make EV charging available to neighborhoods that have, until now, lacked access.

Once the network’s expansion is complete, 7‑Eleven will have one of the largest and most compatible fast-charging networks of any retailer in North America serving communities and customers at charging stations across its entire family of brands including Speedway® and Stripes® stores.

Looks like 2 stations in the Dallas area right now. Both seem to cap CCS at 90kw but that’s better than 0 kw. Combine these with the Subway Oasis stations and all of the additional EA, EVGo et al stations slated to be built by 2025/6 and they’ll rival/surpass Superchargers

While it’s cool that they’re doing this, the need for DCFC is along travel corridors, not “in neighborhoods.” Most cities around here already have requirements for all new multi-family dwellings to have a certain number of L2 installs. Some also have stipulations on L2 for certain kinds of renovation permits. ??

Yeah, there's one in St. Pete near me, haven't tried it yet, but I've seen it on Plugshare. DCFC seems to be expanding here after there was basically none. The new EA station is almost open too.

Good for them, although I find their choice of including CHAdeMO a bit silly. Still, more chargers are good, though I fear there's going to be a mess of apps and charging networks until everyone agrees on an integrated solution.

At least they recognize the need for this. It was almost painful watching Kodak's slow response to digital photography and Garmin wasn't much better watching their GPS navigation business dry up.

Saw the picture of these. Each unit has two plugs, like EA. However, not sure what they were saying about the 90kw limit. Can you plug two cars into each console and get 90 kw each or is it that you can plug one car into each console and get 90kw each?

There is one in tampa. PlugShare say 90kw to each plug if both being used and when software updates takes place max will be 180kw if one plug is being used or 90kw is both used

Even a 90 kW plug would be great. If I need to stop in a city for any kind of convenience store type stuff, a 10-minute charge at 90 kW means 15 kWh, which means >45 miles added to my range while stopping for a sandwich, a soda, and a bag of chips. That's exactly the kind of quick charge I'd be looking for when traveling. And that's the kind of range that would be useful to commuters who don't have a charging station at home.

That is what they are banking on. Load up on snacks and drinks while waiting. Who hasn’t purchased something at Walmart while at EA charger waiting.

If they did something like this in the states, they become the go-to for electric vehicles. They control the whole shebang, instead of leasing space from oil companies.

I think we'll eventually see this. The issue right now is that in the US, a C-store developer can get about half of their store paid for by the taxpayers if they have a certain amount of square footage dedicated to fossil fuel advertising and merchandise. Until that massive subsidy is removed, it will be substantially cheaper to build a gas station c-store than a charging c-store.

Several new locations near me in Austin and it's the same story.
I still find it crazy that new gas stations are still being built. They are literally every 5 miles and in some cases across the street from each other. I can't imagine this will be a good long-term strategy for building new locations only to support ICE.

I think this one that they just built will be popular because it's on that side of the road that there is no gas station at all for maybe 10 miles after a major interstate.

LOL I haven’t. I just water and walk the dog, dog jerky all around, and maybe a little brushing. ?‍♂?
