I’m currently stuck at a grocery store with my wife on her way with my key since my phone as a key is no longer working. Every once in awhile I get the error no key is detected but the car starts fine and I have no issues. Well this time I went to start the car and nothing. I have no prompt for backup passcode or anything. I can start the car remotely using the app but the accessories won’t turn off or on and the center screen won’t reboot. Everything in the sync4 is greyed out so I can’t do anything in the system. Anyone have any suggestions or have this happen to them?

Were you able to get into the car using the code on the B-pillar?

Once in the car, depress the brake and press the start button. You should get a prompt on the Sync 4A screen saying no key detected and asking for a backup start code. It may take a minute.

Nope the sync screen was stuck. I could listen to music and change radio features and use some apps but everything in the setting section was greyed out and the ac controls were greyed off as well. The sync reboot wasn’t working either. My wife came with a key and started right up and I rebooted the sync system. When I got home deleted all paak settings and reset the sync system and reset everything up. Got a key not detected first time trying and second time trying everything it is working for now.

Most of the time the issue is on the phone side. Sometimes it takes a full phone reboot.

This is why my wife gave up on Paak and only uses the fob.
I am stubborn and continue to use Paak and backup passcode.
I still firmly believe it’s NOT the phone.
Achilles heal to the MME is PaaK. Everything else is working for me as it should.
But I still have the random wiper activation ?

Key not detected and no way to enter the backup start code is exactly what made me a “never Paak” guy as well. Tried 8 different ways to try and get the passcode prompt to show and it refused. Never again.

It has been that way for me since the start when some peoples paak and passcodes were wiped by the server. I carry the FOB in a faraday punch and use the phone. Phone is working consistently for me now but as soon as I don't take that fob I am sure Karma will get me. ;)

To leave home without anything but your phone is to tempt fate.

I always keep a fob IN the car. I hide it in there and make sure I lock the car when I exit (it is my habit anyway). Some people also put them in a Faraday bag (I do not). I used to always leave my fob in the car when I would run or bike in similar fashion before the Mach E.

That avoids these glitches and calling my wife to come and rescue me if it happens.

I’ve been using PAAK for a year, no issues. Except that I forget to grab the key when I need to drop it off at the shop.

OP, did you try rebooting SYNC?

That's great.

When you have an issue, and have to call someone to bring a key, or take a Uber home, or get a tow - will you say "I never had any issues"?

OP said in post #3 they rebooted Sync, with no impact.

I always have a fob with me and don’t even notice it in my pocket. However, if I were one who insisted on using the phone as key I would make sure I had a fob in the car with the battery removed as an emergency backup. That way if someone broke into the car the fob would not be recognized, but if I ever needed it I could either install the battery or use the slot in the center console to get the car started.

Same thing happened to me in July of 2022. You cannot rely on PAAK. I had to have the wife bring me a key and at the end, for some reason, my car did a full factory reset. This was right after getting an OTA that morning. So no passcode. Since Fordpass will restore your car after you log in, I was able to restore it later that day, but frustrating not being able to use your car.....

From that day to Sale time, I carried a Fob, it worked every time.
