What are the chances we get the Android Automotive version of SYNC?

I am sure the Ford developers are busy converting SYNC to Android Automotive. I wonder a couple of things:
  • How much this will affect us getting updates and enhancements to the current QNX platform?
  • Is our hardware going to be compatible with the Android Automotive version?
  • The big one: will we get the Android Automotive version?
We bought a car with the promise of regular updates and enhancements. Now logic tells us that they will be slowing down as the Ford devs focus on Android. Yay!

From what I've heard from Volvo's/Polestar's implementation of Android Automotive, I don't think we're missing out on much. Tbh I don't really care about "infotainment" updates; I just need great mapping capabilities, including EV route planning.

The current Sync 4A application processor is also dog slow, but no software update is going to help that.

I bought my car in September of '21 and I'm thrilled with the amount of changes I've seen since then, from new apps and features to an entirely new UI. When I bought it the big screen in the center didn't make much sense because there wasn't much you could do on it, but now you can watch YouTube, you have full-screen CarPlay, you have games. They've added a lot and I think they've kept their promise. I don't expect them to continue to provide major updates to older hardware, no tech product has ever worked like that and cars definitely have never worked like that until very recently.

Whenever I see screenshots of the AAOS interface in the Polestar 2 (which I came close to purchasing), I find myself pretty unimpressed. To me it it seems like it was pretty rushed and lacks refinement. I'm also not crazy about a Google-powered car. I used to be all-in on Google, but lately I've found myself trying to move away from their stuff (mainly dramatic price increases and lack of trust).

Well, I just got my 2023 in December, so I'm expecting more updates, BUG FIXES, and new features, which is less likey since they are moving to Android.

Bug fixes are a reasonable expectation. Feature updates are a nice bonus. Feature parity with later models is a wish upon a star.

How many updates did your last car receive? My 2016 Mustang didn't get any.

I actually did get a few with my 2011 Edge. That being said, one of the selling points of the MME IS "Power Ups".

Just me, but I consider a Power-Up a bug fix and feature enhancement mechanism, not delivery of a new vehicle operating system (which is what Android Automotive is.)

I have a feeling we'll continue to get bug fixes and maybe even some new features even when new hardware comes out
