If preconditioning is so good and important..... why no dedicated button?

I think it's designed this way so the people that need it can use it. All people can still, use it. Most people will probably use it and don't need or don't know why to precondition if it was a button for on and off. And turn it on thinking they are getting benefits. But rather wasting energy or batt life.

I rarely use it. I tried the navigation to charger precondition. It works charges faster than normal.

Agreed but as poorly as FP seems to work for many it probably would just work best to go to the car and set a departure time.

I agree there should be a "Precondition for DCFC" button on the car screen. Useful if you don't want to use the Ford nav.

The reason there's not a precondition button in FordPass is because it takes too long for most peoples' patience. In the winter you would have to press the button and wait 45 minutes or longer to get a full precondition. Battery heating is slow and takes time. That's why they made it a schedule thing rather than an immediate thing. If you want to leave soon, then you should use remote start (it won't heat the battery, but you'll offset some cabin heating).

If you want ideas on what you can do now, see my charging/preconditioning strategy topic. These ideas are explained there, but you can just make a new departure time in the FordPass app for 45 minutes in the future if you know you'll be leaving soon. Or you can program a battery-only departure time once a day around when you might leave, since the battery stays warm for many hours afterwards.

How does one precondition the car before they leave or while driving?

If your not in a hurry to leave. 45min before you leave and follow the instructions above per Mach Lee post.

While your driving is below but mostly for faster charging speed@ DCFC

You have to use Ford Navigation to a DCFC like EA.

And as mentioned the car then begins preconditioning 30km from the DCFC location. Before leaving you set a departure time and the car will precondition the battery and if selected the cabin.

Does the car still keep preconditioning while charging at DCFC after you get to destination via Ford Nav?

The whole purpose of preconditioning is for better mileage.

Is that correct the reason you precondition to a DCFC? is the faster charging rate?

The only way it can improve mileage is the preconditioning is still going on.

Even on app. There is a Start button. Why not to put a button prepare to ride.
If I don't know time when I leave, but I know that I leave in 10-5 mins. Why can't I use this time to make it right for the battery

I decide to go, and I need a few minutes to prepare. Then I can just let my car use that time to prepare as well.

Because it can take 45mins-1hr to precondition the battery especially in colder weather. It’s not an instant thing.

I would really like to see someone calculate the time savings. Preconditioning uses more battery, which means that you have to put more electrons into the car. That being said, does the faster speed make up for the extra energy needed due to preconditioning? If it breaks even (my guess that it will) then you're tricking yourself into thinking your getting a faster charge while in reality you're just spending more money.

Why not use the app's Start button for what you're describing?

It probably depends on how much of a charge you need. If only adding 10%, it’s likely not worth it. Going from 20 to 80, it probably is. That’s just my guess.

Well, when you hook up to DCFC the battery warms up really quick to about 95F, so that wouldn't really matter because a longer duration charge will warm the pack anyway. In my testing from mild winter conditions, it only took about 5-10% before it was max temp just from charging with no preconditioning.
