I have the same issue as GKman when wearing my glasses (strong prescription and transitions lenses) and driving into the sun in the mornings and evenings.

I can still use cruise control if I turn off the lane keeping system, so that is what I usually do.

The warning almost never triggers for me when I'm wearing contact lenses with or without my non-reflective sunglasses. The warnings also stop if the road curves about 45 degrees away from the sun when I'm wearing my glasses. I hope Ford finds a way to address this in future software updates.

Why is a vehicle even watching your eyes when using cruise control? Don't you need to watch the road ALL of the time? The logic of automotive software/safety engineers is perplexing.

Because morons will think they can take a nap and let the car "self-drive." You KNOW they'd do it, too, if there wasn't a warning. Can you imagine the lawsuits?

I believe the warning is intended to wake you if you are starting to fall asleep. Also, a driver is not expected to watch the road 100% of the time. Driver is expected to check the side and rear view mirrors periodically, and to be aware of road signs at the side of the road.

This isn't self-drive, it's cruise control, which has been around for decades.

But why is it only active with cruise control? Why isn't it on all the time?

Yes, I know. What I'm saying is there would be idiots who treat the lane-centering function (which is relatively new) like a "self-driving" capability.

Everyone thinks they have autopilot now days. Because they don't have time to scroll facebook other than while driving I guess. I can't tell you how many people I see daily with a phone in front of their face while doing 80+ on the 65mph freeway that's 7 lanes wide and includes 2 assumed Autobahns. The HOV being 1 of them. Radar cruise + lane keeping has become wrongly hyped as autopilot. The dealer that’ll sold me my RX called it autopilot I don't know how many times. But if you're not holding the wheel it shuts off too, and dings.

I get the warning when actively farting around looking all over, or my fist covering the sensor (dumb place for the thing and they knew it). But down low it cuts the glare and refections from sunglasses a lot more than a visor located sensor could.

I use Cruise Control, hate lane centering and Blue Cruise. Too many beat up roads with potholes and I don't like staying between the lines so I get Driver take a break warnings. If you hit the apex you should get a Gold Star not a warning.

Works with transitions lenses. If you have strong progressives it may distort your eyeball too much. Make sure the sensor pod above the wheel is pointed at your face, should look like this from your perspective:

I have a 2023 and have this sensor pod, but it is never ever lit up with anything visible. Is that normal for a 2023?

You cannot see the IR LEDs with your bare eyes, they do show up when you take a picture with your phone though. Your phone can see different wavelengths than your eyes.

That’s an idea worth exploring. I don’t wear sunglasses but my prescription lenses do transition to a darker tint with bright sunlight.
I wish there was a way to just turn that off in my car. It is too sensitive and goes off a lot.

Press the button on the steering wheel to disable lane centering, and the alerts will stop.
