I bought a 2023 GT model less than 2 months ago. It has only 1,200 miles on it. I have had to take it in for service 3 times already, this will be my fourth time. Every time I take it in, they want to hang onto my car for a minimum of 3 days before they can even tell me what the problem is. Then they require 3-5 days to get parts in, then it takes them 3-5 days to fix the issue. On a BRAND NEW CAR.
First problem I had was an error that popped up and wouldn’t go away. I took it to a dealer, they held into it for 4 days and all they did was disconnect the battery for a couple of nights and it went away. They didn’t do anything to diagnose the problem. Couldn’t be bothered to have someone take a quick scan.
Second problem I’ve had was my brakes. They make a very loud squeak noise when I come to a complete stop and when I start again. I’ve tried bedding the brakes multiple times with no success. Took it into the dealer I purchased the car from and again they wanted to sit in it for 3 days before anyone could even look at it. I was then told my rear brakes were bad (only 1,000 miles at this point) and they needed to order brakes and it would take 3 days to get them. Ridiculous considering I can overnight these brakes from Ford myself. However, the next day I’m told they fixed my brakes and to come grab my car. I drove all the way up there (it’s an hour from where I live) and My service person starts to tell me about how my front brakes will need to replaced again in about 5,000 miles. I said “wait, front brakes? You told me rear brakes.. and why on earth would I need to replace my brakes so frequently on an EV?!” He got really quiet and then said “you’re not Mr. X?”He completely mistook me and almost gave me the keys to some other persons car!
After he realized his mess up, he called the shop and asked them if they ordered the brakes yet. I got to hear the call since he had it on speaker phone. The tech said “oh no, haven’t ordered them yet.” So he said they’d order them immediately and to bring my car back on Wednesday (2 days later). On Wednesday I call and make sure we are still on. No response. Left message. No response. Texted multiple times. No response. Finally I call around 3pm and ask what is going on and the service person said he’s been trying to get a response from the tech but he hasn’t responded yet. He finally hears from the tech and the tech says he can’t start on the car until the following week, he’s too backed up. I said “wait, we scheduled an appointment for me to have work done today, how is that possible?” And he just said “he just got backed up.” Two days, I get an email and a call saying my brakes are in and I can make an appointment to have them installed now. THEY NEVER ORDERED MY BRAKES that entire time and tried to pawn it off on being backed up.
During my time with the car waiting for my brakes, I’ve had three other issues come up with this lemon of a car. Suddenly I’m getting an error saying the front camera is malfunctioning. It goes away and comes back. Sometimes it stays on all day. Also noticed I haven’t been getting OTA updates and noticed under software updates it says one update wasn’t completed. Also, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control will not work at all and I get a warning saying it’s malfunctioning.
So, I text my service person and say “hey, can y’all look at these issues while it’s in the shop for the brakes?” His response “We will need 3 days to diagnose and then can tell you if we need to order parts.” I say “but can’t you have someone run a diagnostic check while they’re doing the brakes and just let me know what’s going on? What if it’s a 5 minute fix?” He said they can’t do that and they are too backed up. So I’m going to have to leave my car there for 1 week just to get all of these issues looked at, then likely another 1-2 weeks so they can get parts in and install them. If this happens, I will have had my car in the service shop for 1/3 of the time I’ve owned the car if I add up all of the time it’s been i
This is my first Ford. I have owned Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Genesis, and Mercedes. Been buying cars for 25 years and NEVER have I had such a horrible experience with a service department than I have had with Ford. I have tried all 3 dealerships around me and they are all incredibly awful with their service. All of these other cars have taken my car in immediately, diagnosed the issue in 1 day and let me know what’s going on and keep me updated. Not Ford. Ford hasn’t even offered me a loaner vehicle during all of this time. I’m just screwed.
I don’t know what to do but after all of this I’m almost willing to deal with the $10,000-15,000 new car tax and trade this car in and get one that actually works and when it doesn’t, they’re actually efficient at getting it back up to working condition.
