When using Blue Cruise, and you get the message, "Hand on the steering wheel", do you need to place your hands somewhere in particular on the steering wheel?
All to often, it is almost as if Blue Cruise does not recognize that my hands are on the steering wheel. Hence, my question...

It senses torque on the wheel, not capacitive touch. If you are lightly holding the wheel but not putting in any torque at all, it will ask for hands on the wheel.

Ah, I see. I tend to lightly hold it. I kept feeling if I held it too tight, it would cause issues with the car trying to guide the wheels...

Tug the wheel and it will stop.

Avoid holding at 12 o’clock or 6 o’clock because that doesn’t produce any wheel torque.

Just give it a little wiggle.

I am a 9 & 3 steering wheel holder. So, maybe with my lightly holding it, it wasn’t happy.
I will try some of the suggestions posted here.
Thanks.

Get an ankle weight and put it on the steering wheel. I still keep a hand on the wheel but it gets rid of the nuisance reminders when driving on a straight stretch of road as it always senses a little pressure on the wheel.

Now if there were only a way to fix the eye nanny so it stops going off even when you're staring straight at the road. Just being able to eliminate the initial audio alert would be plenty.

I hope that was meant to be sarcastic. If so, please use emojis next time.

Steering wheel weights are stupid and dangerous.

Blue Cruise should never request hands on the wheel. Lane Keeping (not the same as Blue Cruise) will require hands on.

BlueCruise is basically an enhancement to lane keeping and cruise control. There are situations where the vehicle can very suddenly and unexpectedly lose confidence in its tracking of the travel lane, even while driving on a BCHF enabled roadway.

It seems reasonable to say that in this situation (where it unexpectedly loses significant lane tracking confidence), if the driver isn't already controlling the wheel, BC will demand them to do so. It flashes a large red alert on the IPC and makes beep sounds or whatever.

Another reason to not hold the steering wheel at 12 and 6 is that 12 will block the eye nanny cam.
