For those of you familiar with the every 10,000 mile / 16,000 km scheduled maintenance, you'll know it includes (b'cause you read the manual) a tire rotation.

I live in a winter climate, and so when I took delivery of the car in November I had the dealership fit the winter tires for me. As it turned out, based on the number of kilometres I drive, by the time Spring rolled around I was due for my first service.

Since the service includes a "tire rotation", I asked the dealership to "rotate" the winters off and "rotate" the summer tires on.

So if you run winter tires, and if the schedule lines up, you can kill two birds with one stone and get your seasonal rotation "included" with the scheduled maintenance.

Do you mark your tires when you take them off, so that you know where to rotate them to when you put them back on?

Yes, the dealership does - usually chalk on the inside sidewall

I recommend marking them on the tread so that it quickly wears off. I used to mark them on the interior sidewall, but it would still be there when I was marking them again the next year.

Great point! I've seen them mark the tire bags too, but I'm not a fan of that either.

Your dealer is Canadian nice. I don’t think that techs south of the border can handle such complexity.

To be honest I do need to explain the scheme to them each time. :)

I mean, it's not much of a scheme since we don't get free maintenance with the Mach-E anyway, right? I absolutely do this with my wife's RAV4 Prime and my son's Jeep since they came with free maintenance that includes tire rotations, but I've never bothered with the MME since I'd have to pay for the "rotation".

C'mon man! At least let me *think* I'm getting something for free

I blame Ford for not giving us free maintenance for some amount of time. If Toyota and Jeep can do it for gas cars that require oil changes, Ford could certainly do it for EVs that have fewer maintenance requirements.
