I am considering purchasing a Mach-E by year's end. I am considering Premium RWD-x, AWD-x, or GT and would like your thoughts. ( I am sure I'm going to get zinged by the "just search the site" crowd ?).

I am trying to balance value, range, performance, and handling.
I'm in Maryland, work commute is 60 miles round trip 2 to 3 days per week. I plan on charging at home. I will road trip it eventually, but I am concerned about road tripping before Tesla opens their network. Wife has an ICE vehicle and I will probably keep my 2013 Optima ( trade in is low).

In my mind the pre AWD-X is the sweet spot. But the RWD gets better range and is cheaper. The GT is faster, but an EV with a base price over $50k doesn't get the Maryland EV credit ($3k).

There is no right or wrong answer, it really comes down to preference and how you plan to use the car. Since you live in a place with colder winters, the extended range AWD comes in handy. Both for traction and loss of range in cold temps. I have the premium extended range AWD and love it. I occasionally wish I had gotten a GT, but premium is plenty quick.

This is how I determined the best fit for me.

Am I going to road trip?
Yes= extended range battery
No= standard range battery

Do I want better performance in rain /snow?
Yes= AWD
Not a concern = RWD

Do I want the highest horsepower and still qualify for the tax credits?
Yes= Premium 4X
No= Premium SR RWD

RWD is fine for the south and gets slightly better range for road trips. AWD is better if you have slippery conditions like snow regularly or like to hammer the accelerator all the time. Most people want the extended range pack for road trips, but standard range is fine if you rarely road trip or there are lots of chargers in your region.

GT is not that much better for the money, the larger front motor helps 0-60 but is more about being fun than practical. GTPE has upgraded suspension and seats, but again comes at a premium price.

Look at used Mach-E's, there are some crazy good deals right now.

Premium AWD is a great car. It will pull well without the GT extra power (and efficiency loss) and put a smile on your face. I find that I am often traction or traffic-limited, more the latter.

Don’t ask me…the mouse slipped at order time (GTPE). I would buy the same car again to get Magneride and the seats….

Premium AWD extended range (or California Route 1) gives you most of the GT fun for a little bit less.
With your daily commute being only 26% of the AWD standard range pack, you can easily get by on the SR model. You’ll get reduced battery degradation on a LFP pack, but you’ll give up 30hp. It’s still a full second faster than the RWD Extended Range, and only 0.3 seconds slower than the AWD ER.
Those are the trade-offs. Whatever works for you, welcome to the Fat Pony Fam!

I bought a Premium AWD because it handles snow and ice much better than RWD does. I don't race around any longer and live on a pension so didn't want the extra HP or cost of a GT. I paid extra for the extended range because in Washington State there aren't enough DCFCs where I travel for pleasure.

Premium AWD Extended Range. That's my vote and I'm firmly stickin' with it ;)

I bought this version because of fewer function compromises. I tend to keep my cars a long time until their wheels start falling off. Fewer compromises at purchase (provided it fits your budget of course) means fewer frustrations as our lives change... commute lengths, living places, travel patterns and time available can and often do all change, planned or unplanned.

Good Luck no matter what you choose!

Premium AWD ER is the most popular model by far and for good reason. I would take into account cold weather and battery deterioration into your calculus.

Also, I’d recommend factoring in a monthly allocation for speeding tickets in your budget. I found it convenient to keep a tab open with the city, cause it’s a monthly occurrence at this point. The benefit is compiling a nice collection of candids that illustrate the beauty of our silver Mach-E in its urban habitat.

I own a GT performance. First the car is to fast! But that is ok . After two weeks of a hot foot I really drive it slower than my ice car. It has a very comfortable drive style you will settle into. The thing I would like to share with you is the Magnet ride damping system. It’s Great! It’s a big difference! I wish Ford would offer it on all models as an option. Just my thoughts.
