I am still waiting to hear back from the BEV team on whether or not my buyback will be approved on my 2023 Mach-E Select that had an HBVJB failure 10 days after I bought it and is now having the same issue after two HBVJB replacements. It's a safety issue so only two failed attempts are needed as per California lemon law requirements.

I'm still on the fence on getting a Mach-E Premium with extended range. But looking back I am wondering if paying $4,000 for an extended warranty at the point of sale was worth it? I can buy an extended warranty at anytime, so why not just wait until I hit the first factory warranty at 36,000 miles? Even then, I'm not sure anything not involving the drive train or battery would cost that much to repair.

So am I over thinking this?

Don’t buy from the dealer. Get a quote from the companies here and pay half what a dealer quotes you.
also they don’t do much until after the car is out of warranty. You buy in the first year or less than 3yrs/36k to save a hundred or two hundred bucks.

Had I skipped the warranty I might have been able to afford a new Mach-E Premium with extended range and not be stuck at home (again) because I can't DC charge on the 180 - 210 mile round trips I take a few times a week after work. Now I just do 90 miles a day and charge at home: :-(

also get the paintless dent repair add on. It's really cheap and well worth it.

It'd be a pain but you can cancel it. You might, even be able to cancel it, have Ford buy back and put you in a Prem. Though nothing guarantees you don't suffer the same.

After the second HVBJB repair I asked my service guy at the dealership, "So I should be good to go and this won't happen again right?" He just shrugged his shoulders, smiled "I can't guarantee it won't."

Sadly they can't, due to not knowing really why it's happening. Or at least not admitting why.

No... don't get it at the dealer during purchase. Get it here before the end of your first year of ownership.

Ford Extended Warranty - Ford Protect (grangerfordextendedwarranty.com)

Got my 2021 F150 and 2023 Mach E extended warranty from them. Best deals in my opinion.
Also, get the "key service" and the "interior & exterior lighting" warranty, well worth it!

I didn't purchase the extended warranty from the dealer. Six months after I purchased my MME Ford reached out to me, then I purchased it. They gave me options as to term and coverage. Also, payable over 2 years without interest.

Two points:

1) One should run the timing on when to purchase vs. the cost. Many will find that waiting until near the end of 36/36,000 is worth doing.

2) The key service is not "well worth it" if you paid $100 for it. A key can be bought, in advance, online, and easily programmed by you in your vehicle in under 30 seconds. It's $70. Why would I pay $100 for something when I can have a key for $30 less? I just did this on my Lightning, actually paid $56 because it was on sale for BF weekend.

1) The longer you wait the more it will cost over time, and the extended coverage starts when you purchased the vehicle. So if you wait to purchase a 10 year warranty at 3 years, you are still only getting 7 years. Compared to getting it within 12 months of purchase the 10 year warranty would be much cheaper rather than waiting til 3y/36k.

2) The key service... it maybe $70 for you now but who knows how much more it could be in the future with the way inflation is going... Especially seven years from now.

This is just my opinion but I get what you're saying too. :) ?

1) No matter when you buy the extended warranty, the only difference is rental coverage. Otherwise, it's 7 years.

It is not "much cheaper". Go play on any of the sites and see. It is a tiny bit cheaper.

2) Buy the KEY now. $70. Or pay $100 now and never need one...

OP is in california, it looks like. Can't buy from the typical online sources.

Link to the site for the key? (Yes, I'm too lazy to search for it, and I want one that is compatible. ) :)

Cancelation will be pro rated. All the more reason to buy later when you have time to compare prices and services.
